Mildred Edna Barnes Jones

Mildred Jones Obituary

Mildred Edna Barnes Jones "Faithful Servant"  Mildred Barnes Jones, after 87 years serving her family and friends, passed away peacefully on Dec. 29, 2003, surrounded by her loving family. Millie was born of goodly parents, Arthur Franklin and Amelia Tingey Barnes on February 8, 1916. She attended East High School, the Univ. of Utah and LDS Business College. She married Paul Warr Jones on May 29, 1939, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were blessed with eight children.  Millie was an active member of the LDS Church and had many callings throughout her life. Her first priority was always her family, but she was also an excellent secretary. For many years she and her husband operated the Jones Insurance Agency from their home. She later was the office manager for Curtis and Brandley Insurance Agency. She was very active in the local PTA leadership throughout her children's school years.  Everyone loved Millie. She never expressed an unkind word or thought and made everyone feel welcome. She was a gracious hostess. She enjoyed spending time at their Brighton cabin with family and friends even though most of her time was spent in the kitchen. Millie was a dedicated wife and loving mother and grandmother. She was a true example of Christ-like service and selfless love. Millie and Paul created strong family ties and left a legacy for their family to carry on. Until Alzheimer's disease slowly robbed her of her mental and physical abilities, Millie finished two cross-ward puzzles daily and excelled in Scrabble, and was an avid reader.  Millie is survived by seven children: Bruce (Bev) Jones of Salem, Oregon; Nancy (Neal) Imeson of Milwaukie, Oregon; Steve Jones of Bozeman, Montana; Marjorie (LeGrand) Shingleton, David (Brenda) Jones, Betty (Kent) Demars, and Sandra (Steve) Morgan, all of Salt Lake City; 28 grandchildren and 24 great-grand-children. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Barnes. Preceded in death by her husband, her sister, two brothers and an infant son, Douglas. Special thanks to the wonderful people at Care Source Hospice Center for their watchful, loving care during mother's final days.  Funeral services will be held Sat., January 3, 2004, 11 a.m., at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 South, where friends may call Friday, Jan. 2nd, from 6-8 p.m. and again Saturday, one hour prior to the service. Interment: Salt Lake City Cemetery.
