Neil Moyes Obituary

Neil Raymond Moyes

1942 ~ 2024

Neil Raymond Moyes, 82, of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, passed away on December 9, 2024, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born August 12, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Gordon Alexander and Wanda Abigail Moyes, Neil lived a life full of love, faith, and service.

A dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, Neil was known for his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, and unwavering faith. He married Kathleen (Kathy) Burgon in the Salt Lake Temple in 1966, raising four sons together. Neil's faith guided his life, including service as a missionary in Scotland and later on three senior missions with Kathy.

Neil proudly served his country as a U.S. Army communications specialist and built a successful career in sales, eventually owning his own business. An outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed skiing, boating, camping, and ATVing, often sharing these passions with family. Known as "Uncle Neil," his warmth and wisdom touched many lives.

Neil is survived by his wife, Kathy; his sons Mike (Hsiou), Darin (Kristina), Brad, and Shaun (Myranda); 12 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gordon Robert (Rae) Moyes.

Viewing services will be held December 15 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and December 16 from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM, followed by funeral services at 12:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 9575 South 3100 East, Sandy, UT. Interment will take place at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Light the World or KSL's Quarters for Christmas. Neil will be remembered as a patriot, a man of character, and a beloved friend to all who knew him.

Neil was a neighborhood friend in the 1950's. He and his wife Kathy Introduced my wife Linda to me on a blind date which we were forever grateful. Our early married life was intertwined, but as our families started to grow and we were in different counties we didn't see each other often. but kept in touch even though not often. Our last time together was a couple of months ago and it was like we had just saw them yesterday. That was our relationship. Friends forever!
