NINA RASMUSSEN Obituary

Nina Ashby Rasmussen 1919 ~ 2010 Our dear beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend peacefully left this earthly life surrounded by family on January 13, 2010.Born to Rodney Badger and Jane Marinda Ashby in Leamington, Utah on September 11, 1919, she was the youngest of 11 children from a remarkable pioneer family who helped to establish Millard County. Nina married Julian W. Rasmussen in the Manti Temple in 1944. Together they raised seven children and enjoyed a marvelous 58 years together until Julian's passing in 2002. Their journey together now continues. In addition to attending UC Berkeley and BAC (now SUU) in Cedar City, Nina received a Bachelor's degree from Utah State University and taught at Millard High School for two years. She was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her scriptures were well worn and constantly read. She faithfully served in numerous callings including ward Relief Society President, ward Primary President, stake Young Women presidency and always loved singing in ward choirs. Nina and Julian honorably and enthusiastically served a proselyting mission together in the Florida, Tallahassee mission. Our singing mother provided a safe and loving household for her husband, children and their friends. She loved tending to her flower gardens and enjoyed the fruits of fabulous and large vegetable gardens from which summer meals were overflowing. Their proud harvest was shared with family, friends and neighbors. Even when Nina was sitting to relax, she lovingly crocheted blankets as gifts. Hundreds were given out. Our parents had long standing and devoted friends from which much of their life's joy revolved. Thanks be to these many friends for bringing so much gladness and adventure to our family. Nina is survived by her 26 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and her seven children who are: Julian (Maxine), Jane Harrington (Robert L.), Kathy McQueen (Jamie), Sterling (Cheryl), Eric (Robynn), Rodney (Barbara) and Jill Latimer (Brandt). A Sunday evening viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Wasatch Lawn (3401 Highland Drive). Monday's funeral at 12:00 noon will be preceded by a viewing from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. at the Valley View 10th ward (2000 East, 3900 South). A special thanks to the loving staff at CareSource Hospice for giving such tender care. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Nina's cherished LDS Perpetual Education Fund. Eric and family. I am so sorry to hear about your mom. When I think back about my childhood memories living on Elmwood, your mom is front and center. She was always so nice to me, and with little reason. How many times did we swipe her vegetables, or blast Three Dog Night at the absolute top volume in the basement? And how many times did we trample thru her flowers shooting hoops in your driveway? I practically lived on that driveway. You had a great mom. Period.

Aunt Nina brightened the room just by being in it! She is now bringing joy to heaven. I am so glad she was at the RB Ashby reunion last summer. Our thoughts are with all of you at this time. Richard (my dad) and Pam Ashby send their love too. Love from Lisa, Sterling and Toft

Heartfelt love to the Rasmussens!
Nina gave us a favorite cookbook when we were married, as well as putting many of the stitches in our first quilted bedspread. We have appreciated her tender touches on getting us started in our married life, now 31 years back. We always think of her wearing her great big smile! She's the genuine article and we know that her wonderful influence will continue on with her adoring family and friends.

Dear Rasmussens,
Nina will surely be remembered with fondness and admiration by me, and I know by the whole Sorensen family. Her good life has blessed all of us. What a tremendous gift is was to grow up in a neighborhood full of solid, generous souls as she.

Love to all of the family,
Georgia Sorensen Anderson
