Paul Pitts Obituary

Paul Douglas Pitts

1945 ~ 2022

Our kind and gentle author has laid down his writing tools to continue his heavenly work.

Our husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend made a brighter world for all of us, not just with his writings and novels but with his nurturing, his teaching to his beloved students, his sense of humor and his warmth. We will do our best to carry on his legacy of love that he modeled.

Paul Douglas Pitts passed away March 5, 2022 after battling multiple health issues.

He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Ralph Earl Pitts and Margaret Lottie Bradford on February 22, 1945. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and served an honorable mission. He married the love of his life, Pamela Purvis Pitts on July 6, 2003. He retired as an Education Professor at Weber State University. He taught for a total of 46 years in the education field.

Paul is survived by his wife and sweetheart, Pam for 19 years; his daughter, Kaija and two sons, Jeremy and Todd. His three sisters: Peggy, Shanna and Christie, grandchildren: Audrey, Didi, Christa, Christopher, Nicholas, Katie and Kendell and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, older brother Bradford and his grandson Damon.

The family wishes to thank the staff and his caregivers at Auberge for their love and care.

Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at Goff Mortuary, 8090 S. State Street, Midvale, Utah. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service.

Masks would be appreciated.

I´m so sorry to be so far behind the passage of time! Yesterday I got out one of Paul´s books to reread. Today I looked for him on line-wondering if he still taught at Weber. I just want to say what a great teacher and mentor he was for my time at Weber! So sorry I didn´t think to look him up long ago, but remembering his teaching, reading and writing skills that meant so much to me. Best wishes.

To know Paul was to love him! I had the privilege of working with him, teaching, in Montezuma Creek. He was well respected being nominated teacher of the year by his peers more than once. He was a mentor to our staff teaching teachers how to run a writing program. Later, I was lucky to take a class from him through Weber on teaching writing. That included his sharing of children's literature.
His book, "Racing the Sun," was a favorite read aloud in my classroom.
Besides owning 2 of his novels, I have a couple handmade books he wrote using pictures from movie clips with humorous captions capturing the joys of teaching. I loved his humor and his humbleness. I'm sure he touched many lives in the way he touched mine I'm sorry to hear of his passing.
My condolences to his family and friends.

"We exist temporarily through what we take but we live forever through what we give."
~Douglas M.Lawson
My dear friend Paul, you gave and you gave. You shared your love of people through your teaching and by your example of a kind and caring person. So many of us were the recipient of your knowledge but most of all, we were the recipient of your caring and gentle nature. It is with tears that I say good-by , for a moment. My sincerest condolences go out to your family.

Professor Pitts was one of my favorite professors at Weber State Elementary. He taught my language arts course and was the most kind, gentle teacher. He modeled for his students what a teacher should be like. I will always remember when he read children's stories to us (he introduced me to Keven Henkes. Professor Pits wrote a letter of recommendation for me when I graduated from WSU. I respected and loved him immensely!
