Phyllis Rigdon Obituary

1924-2013
South Salt Lake, UT-Our beautiful mother passed away peacefully on June 3, 2013 after spending the last several days of her life visiting and expressing her love for her family. Phyllis was born on August 31, 1924 to Daniel and Margaret Perkins in Bluff, Utah. She was raised in Blanding, Utah with her three brothers and a sister; Mardan, Clayton, Connie and Jim. After graduating, from South High School in Salt Lake City, she was called to serve the Lord in the East Central States Mission. While on her mission she met her future husband James Waldon Rigdon. Upon her return and James' conversion to the church, they were married on March 8, 1950 in the Salt Lake City Temple for time and all eternity. They had five children Mike, Dan, Alan, Randy and Donna, whom she loved unconditionally. In 1978 James died of a heart attack leaving Phyllis to raise the children on her own. Phyllis was a determined and loving mother that met the challenges head on. She worked at RC Willey and retired in 1989. Phyllis lived in South Salt Lake for over 50 years. She has 19 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren whom she loved to be with. Phyllis loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and organ. Reading was her passion; she could start and finish a book easily in one day and could never get enough books. She spent many hours knitting Afghans for her children and grandchildren and enjoyed working on her family's genealogy. Phyllis served the church in many callings including working with the young women, relief society and primary. She was an avid BYU fan and very seldom missed watching a game on TV.
She is survived by her sons and a daughter; Mike (Deanna), Dan (VaLynn), Alan (Kris), Randy (Ludaun), and Donna; 19 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren: and her brother Jim "By" Perkins along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband James Rigdon, her parents Daniel and Margaret and her siblings Mardan, Clayton and Connie.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday June 8, 2013 at the Wandamere Ward, 304 East 2700 South. A viewing will be held Friday from 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the same location and Saturday 9:45-10:45 a.m. also at the church prior to services. Interment at the Redwood Memorial Park & Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT. Online guest book at www.memorialutah.com.

Dear Rigdons, my longtime friends,
What lovely memories I have of your mom and dad and each one of you! Growing up on Green Street was such a wonderful experience for me as I was surrounded by wonderful adult role models. Your mom was one of those special people. May you be comforted in the days ahead by the knowledge you have of the Gospel and by the warm memories you have of your mom.

Dear Rigdon Family,
How I loved your mother! I loved her laugh and her gentle nature. She was such a great friend to my mother. I will never forget what a kind, sweet person she was. She was a stalwart member of Grant 10th Ward.
Much love,
Laurie Swenson Hathaway

I remember how patient your mom was when we used to do stupid things in our younger years. She was a great person with an incredible smile!

Dear Rigdon Family!
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Our first thought was after she visited with your Dad and her family she would go across the street and see Harvey and Maxine! We love the Gospel and the peace that comes when we loose a loved one. We loved your mom so much!
