Raymond Rasmussen Obituary

Raymond Phillip Rasmussen
1925 ~ 2012
Raymond Phillip Rasmussen, prominent businessman and leader in many ways left his life's work on the earth Tuesday the 24th of January after a lengthy illness. Born May 27th 1925 in Magna Utah to Lorin Neils (Dutch) Rasmussen and Anna LeIsle Phillips Rasmussen. The oldest son of five children, he looked over and was looked up to by sisters Virgina Ann (Zobrist), Marilyn (Grachl), Donna LeIsle (Bullock) and brother Lorin Neil Rasmusssen. He carried the nickname (Bud) to his close family, more commonly addressed as Phil. After elementary he attended Stewart Middle School and graduated from South High in 1943- continued education in business. At the age of eighteen, he entered the armed forces and was assigned to the US Navy serving two years in the Solomon and Russell Islands.
Upon returning home to Salt Lake and with the dreams of owning his own business, saving as much money as he could, he founded the Salt Lake Venetian Blind Co. In 1947 he married Donna Mulcock. Together they had four children, their marriage was later dissolved.
In 1949 he founded Kool Breeze Awning Co. From there he pursued the manufacturing business and founded AMSCO Windows, which continues to be a growing and successful business. He married Linda Ann Peterson in 1986. Marriage sealed in the Manti Temple. Phil was honored to serve on several boards including Sigma as president, Amicus as president, an arm of Deseret Foundation, contributor to L.D.S Hospital and Valley Bank Corps. Enjoyed being a member of Salt Lake Rotary and Chamber of Commerce for many years. Received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the year award in 2003 for is contribution in business. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served faithfully from positions in the Student Ward, University of Utah Stake, Scoutmaster, High Council, Bishop and a calling to preside over the Ohio Cleveland Mission for three years, a calling he dearly loved. His love of family and his fellow man led him to much success and the admiration of his family and friends. His most rewarding calling was that of Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather. Many special memories and fun times spent boating, water skiing, trips to Bear Lake, Lake Powell and Island Park.
Phil is survived by his wife Linda, daughters Annette Curtis (Richard), Cindy Buie (Randy), Susie Howard (Rock) and son Ray. Extended family loved and appreciated Laurie Roberts (Geary), Richard Mulcock (Wendy), Steven Mulcock (Michelle), twenty five grandchildren and spouses and thirty three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Marilyn and three infant grandchildren. No greater tribute or honor could we pay him as a family than to walk in the light of the Gospel and be as one when we meet again. Our Love , Your Family.

Phil… I just wanted to bid you a fond Aloha on your new journey ahead.

It has been many years since I was your tour guide in Hawaii, and worked for Beehive Tours & Travel. I often recall a few special groups and families I had on tour there over the years. You, your family, and the other employees from AMSCO who came over to the islands are certainly among those that I have fond memories of.

I just lost my mother a year ago, and so I know your family will be going through some trying times ahead without you. I hope at this difficult time they will now be able to look back on all the great times you all shared, and find comfort in continuing to enjoy each other and the memories you have all made together.

Thank you for the opportunity to have been able to show you, your family and your co-workers Hawaii. I hope someday we can meet again, and that maybe this time you will be able to take me around, and show me the real “paradise” that you are enjoying now.

Again, my condolences and best wishes to your family, and all those you have left behind. I hope that they will all have peace, happiness, and good health in the years to come.

Remember, Aloha is not forever, but just until we meet again.

Mahalo Nui Loa…

Your old tour guide - Brent

Dear Family,
Uncle "Bud" will be greatly missed, but his example will live on forever in all of our hearts. He was so much more than an uncle to me, I consider him and Linda friends, confidants, and most of all the greatest example to his little brother, my father Neil. His guiding influence and hand were felt by my Dad throughout his life. Thank you for helping mold my Dad into such a great man. Your influence will be felt forever and I look foward to the next family gathering where someone will pull out the ukulele and we can sing some of those old favorite songs. My cousins, I love you all as we had so much fun in our youths gathering a Bear Lake and elsewhere, as Uncle Bud so graciously opened his home to us all. Until we meet again, Uncle Bud you have left a wonderful legacy and your example will be felt in so many lives for so many years.

All my love to Aunt Linda and my cousins. You hold a special place in my heart.
