Richard Crump Obituary

"Rich"
On the beautiful spring day of April 7, 2012, we lost our beloved son, father, and nephew, Rich Crump, to bacterial meningitis at the age of 45.
He was born July 5, 1966 to Linda Simonsen Crump and William Crump in Bountiful, Utah. He married Kim Trayner-Crump, later divorced, and from that union they had Lindsey Jean Crump (the apple of Daddy's eye, whom he loved very much) along with his loving step-children, Allison Trayner and Anthony Chalker.
Rich graduated from Viewmont High School and Utah State University. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Rich was a member of St. Olaf's parish for many years. He struggled with alcohol addiction and bi-polar disorder throughout his life. Through the help of the VA hospital, Rich was able to stabilize and start a whole new life. He worked as a Vocational Counselor and was able to help other veterans at the VA with their struggles as well. Rich was very happy and satisfied with this new career.
Richard loved music all his life and was an accomplished musician, especially with the guitar. He shared this love with his family and friends. He was president of Sigma Phi Epsilon at USU and holds many friendships to this day because of it. Rich and Lindsey shared a love of the outdoors and camping; they were able to do this the last week of his life. Rich had a very giving heart and is still giving the gift of life through organ donation.
He followed in death after his younger brother John Matthew Crump, cousin Alvin G. Simonsen III, his father William, and grandparents.
He is survived by his mother, children, uncle, aunts and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 11 a.m. at St. Olaf's Catholic Church, 276 E. 1700 S. Bountiful, Utah. Friends may visit family Friday, April 13th from 6-8 p.m. at Lindquist's Bountiful Mortuary, 727 N. 400 E.
Gravesides services at Centerville City Cemetery will be at a later date.

I was shocked and saddened to hear about Rich's passing. My best wishes and sympathies go out to his family. Rich was one of my oldest friends and I have many fond memories of him. He was a great friend, had a great sense of humor and was often wise beyond his years.

Rich and I shared a lot of music interests and attended many concerts together in our teens. I was also fortunate enough to work with Rich at the Mandarin. He had a talent for making any tough situation a fun experience and I'll always be grateful for that.

Didn't get to see him as much as I'd like over the last 25 years, but I'll miss him all the same.
