June 25, 2025

Taylorsville, UT - Dr. Richard B. Holt, M.D.

September 1, 1948 - June 25, 2025

Dr. Richard B. Holt, M.D., age 76, of Highland, Utah, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, surrounded by family. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah, on September 1, 1948. He lived a life shaped by faith, discipline, duty, and devotion.

A skilled physician, a military officer, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. Rick's legacy is one of steadiness, humility, and unwavering love for his family.

He served a mission in Central and South America for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1967 to 1969.

He graduated from Hillcrest High School, completed premedical studies at Brigham Young University and Utah State University (cum laude), and earned his medical degree from George Washington University in 1976. He trained in diagnostic radiology at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, where he served as Chief Resident.

He married Susan Carrigan on December 18, 1969, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They lived in the Washington D.C. area while he was getting his medical degree.

From 1972 to 1983, he served with distinction in the United States Navy, ultimately as Staff Diagnostic Radiologist at the Regional Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia. His civilian medical career spanned over four decades, including long tenures at Salt Lake Regional Medical Center, Jordan Valley Medical Center-where he chaired the radiology department for thirteen years-and St. Mark's Hospital.

He loved golf, his dogs, fishing, riding his Harley, hunting, and anything outdoors. He also loved boinging-ask any Holt or Carrigan-and he found the greatest joy in doting on his family.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Pace Holt; his six children: Justin (Melissa) Holt, Joshua (Samantha) Holt, Heather (Chad) Palmer, Nathan Holt, Leslie (Jaelan) Petrie, and Beth (Brad) Osborne.

He is also survived by twenty-six grandchildren, one great-grandson, and his younger brother, Randy M. Holt.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Susan Carrigan; his father, Blaine Densley Holt (December 2, 2016); his mother, Mary Beverly Garff Holt (October 8, 2017); his younger brother, Kendall A. Holt (December 24, 2007); and Coleen Carrigan Driskill (June 5, 2020).

I remember Rick as he was known in Midvale, Utah. We went to all of the same schools as we grew older and graduated together from Hillcrest High School in 1966. The beard I grew for the 50 year reunion 2016.
