Robert DeWitt Obituary

Robert Charles DeWitt
1953 ~ 2012
Rob passed from this life into his next mission peacefully at home with his family close by. He has valiantly fought a glioma brain tumor for the last three months.
He was born in Kalamazoo Michigan on December 8, 1953 and moved to Utah while in his teens.
He married his high school sweetheart, Debbi on May 31, 1975 and raised their family in West Jordan for the last 27 years.
He is survived by his parents Dr. Charles and Una DeWitt, brother Steven (Sherrie) and sister Ginny DeWitt and in-laws Jim and Pat Craner.
He leaves behind his wife, Debbi and their 4 sons and wives, Matt and Marianne, Brent and Amy, Cameron and Shae, Colby and Heather. But most important, the joys of his life, his 6 grandchildren Kyler, Ambree, Lily,Hunter, Kinley and Lukas; in addition to many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews and his pudding girlfriend Grandma Red.
Rob loved his family and worked hard to provide for them. His greatest joy was spending time with them. He loved watching them grow into men and become fathers themselves. He was so proud of all their accomplishments. He desired to fight long enough to see his youngest son become a father. This would have made his life complete. We know he has gone to be with this child that our family so anxiously waits for.
Rob was a master falconer and will always be remember for his love of training and flying birds. He shared this talent with many others. To be able to hunt with them and his sons was the ultimate high. He loved to hunt and fish with the boys and loved it more when they outdid him.
Rob served as a Salt Lake City police officer for 11 years and later worked for 30 years in HVAC where he had many friends and associates.
Rob was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He took his wife and 3 young sons to be sealed in the temple on his birthday in 1981. He believed and had a testimony of the Gospel and in forever families and did everything he could so he could be with them forever.
Rob and Debbi spend their time together traveling to all the exotic and bizarre places they could find. Always willing to try and do anything new. For Rob, heaven will have to include conch salad and some scuba gear.
Honoring his wishes there will be a grave side service on Wednesday February 1 at 10:00am at the Tooele Cemetery. We would invite any and all to please join us for this short dedication.
After the graveside services the family would like to invite all friends, family, neighbors to join them at the Gathering place in Gardner Village from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. Please come remember the good times with us.
There are no words to express our appreciation to everyone, friends, family and neighbors who have reached out with all their love, prayers, food and support. A special thanks to Dr. Cohen and Whitney, at Huntsman's, who gave us HOPE and to Harmony Hospice, Heidi and Rudy who gave us peace the last3 weeks here at home. Some days would have been unbearable without them. And to Rob's chosen brother Terry, thank you for all putting up with him and proving so many good memories and healing the wounds so he could move on with his eternal progression. We love you all.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial account has been set up at Wells Fargo bank in memory of Rob DeWitt so that the family can create and donate a tree to festival of trees in his memory this year.

Bob, our paths crossed that first Monday of August 1978 and for the next several months we shared alot of stories and told alot of lies. You introduced me to the wonder of pheasant hunting back then and proved yourself to be a true outdoorsman. Our paths seperated somewhere along the way and never reconnected until most recently when I visited you in December. You still wore the same grin as I remembered and all I can think of now is of time and friendship lost. You will not be forgotten.

Charles and Una, So sorry to hear of Rob's passing. We lived across the street from you on Brockbank Dr. and remember you all fondly. We are still there and think of Rob and his falcon often. Hope you are all well and blessings to you in this difficult time. It sounds like he had a full and happy life. Take care...Geri (Allen) and Steve McMurdie
