Scott Gottfredson Orrock

Scott Orrock Obituary

Scott Gottfredson Orrock 1926 ~ 2006 Scott Gottfredson Orrock passed away peacefully August 13, 2006. He was born on August 23, 1926 to Joseph Henry and Fannie Letitia Gottfredson Orrock in Richfield, Utah; the eighth of nine children. Scott received his Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in education from BYU where he was later employed for 20 years in the Counseling Department. This was the beginning of his lifelong love of all things "BYU", particularly BYU sports. He married his sweetheart, Dawn Anderson, in the Salt Lake Temple June 8, 1949. Together they raised eight daughters and three sons while living in Provo, Utah, Tuba City, and Page, Arizona. While working in Page for the school district, Scott served on the city council and also as vice-mayor. During Scott's retirement in St. George where they lived for an additional ten years, Scott served on the board of Foster Care of Utah as well as Habitat for Humanity. He also substitute taught from pre-school through high school. He loved the students and they loved him. Scott and Dawn lived in American Fork, Utah for three years before recently moving to Springville. Scott always loved to use his hands and spent many hours making and donating hundreds of loom hats to humanitarian projects. Scott served in World War II followed by an LDS mission to the Central Pacific Islands. He continued his love and association with the Polynesian people as BYU staff advisor to the Hawaiian Club. For many years he directed tours to Hawaii and always loved visiting the islands and his dear friends. He was a High Priest and served willingly in many capacities in the LDS Church. Scott put hobbies and personal interests second to his large family. He left us with wonderful memories of camping, drive-in movies, road trips, and anything else that could be done on a budget. His later years were spent hosting and visiting cherished grandchildren. Scott always said that his greatest achievement in life was marrying his beloved wife, Dawn, who survives him, along with the following children: Lana Putman, Lynne LeBaron (Kim), David Orrock (Julie), Susan White (Jon), Kathy Pruett (Dave), Carol Stephan (Dan), Jim Orrock, Diane Justice (Larry), Kristen Brittain (Shawn), Sandra Marquez (Byron), and Steven Orrock; 50 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren (and Lizzie, his loyal dog). He is also survived by one sister, Maxine Lorenson, of Richfield, Utah. Scott was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Krissy Pruett, two brothers, and five sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at the Kolob 9th Ward building located at 1627 West 1200 South, Springville, Utah. A viewing will be held at Walker Family Mortuary, 85 E. 300 S., Provo on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 from 6-8 p.m. and 9:45-10:45 on Thursday, at the chapel. The family would like to thank the staff at UVRMC in Provo, Utah who took such tender care of our wonderful husband and father. Online condolences at www.walkerfamilymortuary.com

Alma Dawn: There aren't many people who call you that anymore. When they do, you know they were from the old Provo neighborhood. Having grown up there together, we share your loss just as we would a family member. Our very best to you Alma Dawn, we love you and reaffirm that just as you believe that your relationship with Scott is eternal, we also believe friendships established here are also eternal. Families are forever and so are friendships.

Love, Don and Annetta

Dear Dawn

It is hard to loose the other half of yourself, the only thing that makes it any easier is knowing that we will have them for eternity. My prayers are with you at this time.

We shall miss Scott's unfailing sense of humor. He was a wonderful father, and a sound counselor. He used life wisely, always aligning his priorities with eternal values. He truly fought the good fight, and has left a legacy of wisdom and good cheer. His family can be truly thankful for him, and remember him in deep and deserved affection all of their lives.
