Scott VanderLinden Obituary

Scott Barry VanderLinden

1945-2021

Scott Barry Vander Linden beloved husband, father and grandfather, age 76 passed away on June 1st, 2021 at home in his sleep.

Born January 31st, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ruth Naomi Van Seters and Arthur Vander Linden. Married Ranae Heiner Vander Linden 6/8/1979, Salt Lake City; and was sealed with his family 11/28/1992 in the Salt Lake Temple.

Scott was a general contractor with his father and brothers and later established his own business "The Flying Dutchman" until 1981 and continued using his license to help family and friends.

He served as an Army Reserve Medical Specialist 1963-1969, helping make artificial limbs. And he enjoyed racing cars in Texas while in the army.

He went on to work for Utah State Department of Insurance as a computer programmer in 1984 and retired in 2014 after 30 years.

Member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and he actively served in various positions in the church. Scott served the Central Atlantic States Mission in Virginia, 1964-1966. His devotion to serving his fellowman was his mission in life. He honored his priesthood and cherished his family; providing a rare example of service and faith in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He volunteered for search and rescue and other community service organizations. He received his certification as a ham radio operator to help the Official Emergency Response of Utah. Scott earned his wood badge and served as a scout leader in the Boy Scouts. Scott was an avid tinkerer and problem solver; he could build a tool, to build the tool, to solve the problem you didn't even know you had. He was constantly learning new hobbies and skills. The man was always in motion.

Sorry to hear about Scott. For years we would take the trax to city center and walk up the hill together. He was a great man, and a wonderful friend

I'm really glad to have known Scott. I met him working at the Utah Insurance Department. He'd show me exotic wood samples that he planned to make into something fabulous. From the other posts, it sounds like I'm not the only person he'd address as "Hey Brother", and he truly treated me like a brother, including the playful teasing and unexpected jabs. He got me good right below the ribcage once - I can still feel it :) He's an exceptional craftsman and maybe even a better people builder. I'll miss him. I give my respect and condolences to his family.

OH Scotty,
I have so many fond memories of Scott while we worked togtether at the UT Insurance Dept. The time we spent planning and carrying out Christmas Parties. His beautiful wood work bowls that he would give away each Christmas for the white elephant gift. You were very blessed if you were on the receiving end of this special gift. The surprise visits after he retired. He was so much fun to talk with as he shared his many stories of life etc. I loved how he addressed me as gal.....how are you doing gal he would say.
Bless his sweet Family at this tender time. Please know he touched many lives and was so appreciated.
My love and condolences

Renae, Kara and Candace, I know how much he loves you, he told me many times. I can´t imagine what you are feeling right now but I know it is hard. We love you and Scott and pray for you.
