Scott Preston Whiting was born January 25, 1957, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Robert Preston Whiting, and Linda Louise Sorensen Whiting. Scott lost his valiant fight to Pompe Disease, a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy, on June 5, 2018. Scott met the love of his life, Tracey Ellsworth Burrell, on March 16, 1985. They became engaged April 16, 1985. When Tracey's five-year-old daughter, Brandee, from her previous marriage, heard the news, she said, "Good! Now I can call him, Dad!" Scott, Tracey, and Brandee became a family on May 17, 1985. Scott legally adopted Brandee in June of 1988. Scott was baptized and confirmed a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on April 15, 1986. He faithfully served in the Boy Scouts for many years, several Elders Quorum presidencies, and Bishopric. Scott was a friend to everyone he met. Scott had the need for speed, he drag-raced until shortly after he married Tracey, and was an avid NASCAR fan. He loved camping and riding his ATVs, even after his health declined, he would strap his oxygen tank to his four-wheeler.
Scott is survived by his loving wife, Tracey, daughter Brandee (Andrew) Garvoille, grandson, Carter, granddaughter, KayCee, sister-in-laws, Denise (Brian) Ohler, Teri (Bill) Nickel, Kris (Eddie) Quinn, brother-in-law, Mark (Shauna) Ellsworth, bonus in-laws, Keith and Maryann Burrell, and their family, and many nephews and nieces, who adored him. Preceded in death by grandparents, parents, and in-laws, Clifton and Karma Ellsworth.
Funeral services will be 11 am Friday June 8, 2018 at the Hunter Central Stake, 3930 S 6000 W, West Valley City. Visitations will be 6-8 pm Thursday, June 7, 2018 at Peel Funeral Home, 8525 West 2700 S, Magna and 10-10:45 am Friday prior to services at the church.
Interment: Pleasant Green Cemetery.
