Sherman Danner Obituary

Sherman "Ted" Danner

1952 ~ 2023

Ted Danner left this world peacefully on Wednesday, June 7, 2023. Ted was a gentle and generous soul, with a shot of spice. Born in Heber City, Utah on December 9, 1952 to Shanna Milliner and Merrill Keith Danner, Ted spent his early years playing with dogs and friends in the fields near Heber City. In the summers he worked hard bailing hay and digging ditches. The hard work paid off when he became a very skilled wrestler for Wasatch High School. He became an Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow with the love and support of Paul Mitchell. Ted served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rome, Italy and then returned to complete schooling to become a nurse. He worked at several different hospitals in Utah, as well as a short time in Saudi Arabia. Ted married Stacy Shelton August 31, 1977 (later divorced) and had five children. On October 8, 2001, he married Karen Openshaw. They were sealed August 14, 2003 in the Jordan River temple, and later, two adopted daughters were also sealed to them. Ted loved golf, racquetball where he frequently played for "the championship of the world", and vitamin C: cookies, Coke and chocolate. He also liked to build useful things, small and large, with PVC. Ted will be remembered by most for the quiet service he gave. He was known for mowing lawns and shoveling sidewalks in the neighborhood, he provided care and nursing services to many neighbors and friends, and gave away many sets of boots to hospital patients departing into the snow or rain.

Ted is survived by his wife, Karen; his children Summer, Ian (Wayne), Cameron (Travis), Sean, Olivia and Claire; his sister Terry Hunt; his stepbrothers Glen Van Wagoner and Doug Van Wagoner; six grandchildren; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son Pearce; his sister Thressa Wright; his stepfather Doyle Van Wagoner; and his stepbrother Lynn Van Wagoner.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 15 at the South Mountain 1st ward building at 607 E Rocky Mouth Lane in Draper, Utah. Viewings will be held on Wednesday, June 14 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens located at 1950 E 10600 S in Sandy, Utah and on Thursday, June 15 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the South Mountain 1st Ward building before the funeral services.

I worked many years with Ted in the ER. He was always a nurse one could rely on to be tentative to patient´s needs. He was special. Ted bought me my first computer and then taught me how to use it. I wasn´t the easiest to teach, but after many sessions I finally learned - thanks to Ted´s patience. We also enjoyed racquetball together and in that he was patient also. Thank you, Ted, for being my friend.

We are saddened with the loss of Ted Danner. What a wonderful person he is. Whenever he came into Jake's Auto he always had a smile on his face and he made us feel great.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this time. We are so sorry.

Ted was one of the best most knowledgable nurses I have ever worked with. We worked together in the Emergency Room for many enjoyable years back in the good ol days. Ted's calm demeanor helped everyone work the most stressful shifts. We had a really good close team. I also enjoyed several fun rounds of golf with Ted. I am sad. Love you Ted

I worked, for a short but thanks to Ted a very memorable time, with Ted at a medical facility during the constructions of IPP near Delta. A very knowledgeable and hard working nurse, Ted was always ready to take any shift I had available. It took me several weeks to determine his dedication was perhaps more related to the pickup racquetball games he could find at the recreation center than the patient care. I have never forgotten, nor will I forget his spirit.
