Vivian Terry Obituary

Riverton, Utah - Vivian Hickman Terry, aged 80, passed away on August 25, 2024, in Riverton, Utah from age related causes. Born on April 20, 1944, in Tremonton, Utah, she was a cherished figure in her community and a beacon of love and strength to her extensive family.

Growing up on the family ranch in Stone Idaho, she attended school in Snowville and Graduated from Bear River High School in 1962.

Vivian dedicated her career to nurturing young minds in the Madison School District, where she taught math for over two decades. Her passion for education began at Utah State University and was evident throughout her stints at Lincoln Elementary, Washington Middle School, and finally, Madison Junior High. She was also an adjunct faculty at Ricks College. Additionally, she served as the President of the Madison County Teachers Association.

A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Vivian's faith was integral to her life. She was married in the Salt Lake Temple to her husband on August 20, 1964. She served faithfully in various church callings and, alongside her husband, Steven, completed missions in Albuquerque, NM, and the Nauvoo Illinois Temple, strengthening her community and faith. She also served as a a stake missionary in the Idabel Oklahoma branch.

Vivian developed a love of music from a very young age and was a natural musician. As a young woman, she developed talents in the violin, clarinet and piano. She continued playing the piano her entire life, and shared her skill for many years teaching piano to youth. Everyone always praised and commented on her beautiful abilities as a pianist. Additionally, Vivian had an amazing singing voice and sung in many choirs throughout her life. She truly loved the beauty and peace of music, and she shared it with all around her.

Vivian loved adventure and travel. She was always looking for new places to see and visit. Upon starting her family, she and Steven lived in Utah and then quickly moved to Yucca Valley, California. After nine years there, they moved to Rexburg, Idaho, where they did the majority of their child rearing. Not long after becoming empty-nesters, Vivian and Steven moved to Paris--no not the cool one--Paris, Texas. After living there for 16 years, they moved to Riverton, Utah to be closer to their children.

Besides living in many areas, Vivian was a world traveler. With her husband by her side, she visited every state in the US. She also had the opportunity to travel to Mexico, Canada, Central America, Europe (Hungary, Greece, Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany and Italy), South Korea, China, and the Caribbean. She always loved learning about different cultures and was appreciative of the beauty in the world.

Vivian was the heart of her family, deeply loved and respected by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, Steven Terry; children, Yvette (Mike) Berta of Roxbury Township NJ, Katie (Thomas) Dickson , Matt (Cindy) Terry of Chester ID, Spencer (Bev) Terry of Hooper UT, Stuart (Crystal) Terry of Ogden UT, and Heather (Cameron) Shirley of Bountiful UT; 23 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren, with three more on the way. She also leaves behind four brothers and three sisters. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, Blaine and Elnora Hickman; a granddaughter, Bethany; and her in-laws, Steven and Katherine Terry.

Vivian's legacy of love, service, and devotion will forever be cherished and remembered by those fortunate enough to have felt her influence.
