William Stucki Obituary

William Richard Stucki 1928 ~ 2008 William Richard Stucki died Wed., February 27, 2008, in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 79. Richard was born August 21, 1928 in Salt Lake City to William T. and Lucy Marie (Sorenson) Stucki. He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Nova Scotia, Canada, and graduated in 1951 from the University of Utah. He married Marjorie Curtis on July 30, 1951, in the Salt Lake Temple. They reared a family of eight children. After spending many years in the retail clothing industry, Richard and Marjorie decided their family needed a change. In 1976 they moved to Castle Valley near Moab, Utah where they fulfilled a life-long dream of living in the country and building a family farm. The experiences they shared there tied their family together in an unbreakable bond. They lived on the farm for 29 years planting, pruning, gardening, and raising various animals. They also owned a restaurant and bakery and later a bed & breakfast inn in Moab. Over the years Richard drove a school bus between Castle Valley and Moab. He and his wife served in the Monticello Temple and later filled another mission for the Church in Winnsboro, Louisiana. In 2005, due to complications caused by cancer, they left their beloved home in the country and moved to Springville, Utah. Richard found real joy in serving people and tried to emulate the example of the Savior in word and deed. All who knew him were lifted by his radiant smile and friendship. He is survived by wife, Marjorie Stucki of Springville, Utah; eight children, 38 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Margaret Christensen of Salt Lake City, Utah; and Barbara Anderson of Pleasant Grove, Utah. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Bonnie Gudmundson of Bountiful, Utah. Funeral Services are Saturday, March 1 at 2 p.m., Springville West Stake Center, 996 W. Center Street in Springville, Utah. Sincerest thanks to the many kind and caring people at the Huntsman Cancer Institute and those who have helped to provide a facility where those who are suffering from cancer receive kindness, respect, dignified treatment, and hope. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, well-wishers donate to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.

Dear Stucki Family, I have known Richard ever since we were Deacons in the old Parleys Ward. During Irving Junior High School days we were the best of friends. We would go to Sugarhouse too often and miss our school bus. We walked up 2100 South past the old state prizon more than we rode the bus. We enjoyed reading about Richards many accomplishments during his mortal probation. The greatest of these is his FAMILY. MAY THE LORDS CHOICEST BLESSINGS BE YOURS! LOVE Al Anderson

It was with great saddness that I read of the passing of a great man. Richard and his family had an impact on many Moab and Castle Valley families. Their example, their service and their genuine love were an inspiration to many. Thank you Stucki's. Richard will be missed.

My name is Evan Emmett, I work in the lab at the Huntsman Hospital as a phlebotomist, and I just wanted to offer my condolences to the Stucki family with regards to the passing of Richard. He was a very sweet man, a pleasure to get to know. I know he was in alot of pain, but never lost his gentle manner! Again, wanted to express my sympathy to you during this time.
