David Taylor Obituary

David Taylor
David "Dave" Alan Taylor, 61, of Yermo, entered into eternal rest Sept. 14, 2010. Born in Port Hueneme, Calif., on Sept. 2, 1949, he also lived in Oxnard and Alta Dena, Calif., from 1961-1962, and also the state of Hawaii for three years before moving to Barstow in 1965. He can be remembered as a quiet, intelligent and generous man. He could be known as a little sarcastic and stubborn at times, but was also big-hearted. He could be silly and funny, making up words to songs to entertain his kids. He also wanted "to be" and "to do" his best, raising his children and grandchildren.
He was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School in Barstow and worked for the railroad briefly here, before serving in the United States Navy from 1969-1971. His military service started with basic training in San Diego, with schooling in his mechanical field in West Virginia and Connecticut. He later continued his education, receiving several degrees from Barstow Community College. Dave's employment most of his life was in civil service. He started at Fort Irwin and later was transferred to MCLB in Barstow, serving 40 years. He married Jackie Mashburn on Jan. 1, 1972, until her passing on Aug. 6, 2003. He later married Brandi Hayes on July 5, 2005. He had many personal interests, including motorcycles, fish, computers, collecting cannons and working on home improvement projects. His personal philosphy was "Duct Tape Can Fix Anything" (which was a running family joke.) He also loved watching movies with his children and grandchildren, listening to oldies music, going to the beach in San Diego, reading a book by Tom Clancy, watching "Star Trek" and "Battlestar Galactia" and loved making odd food dishes to torture his children. Cow's tongue definitely was not their favorite.
He is survived by his wife, Brandi of Yermo, daughters, Michelle Mashburn of Yermo, and Patricia Hannig of Las Vegas, Nev.; son, Scott Taylor of Barstow; grandsons, Brian Acosta, Charles Acosta and Patrick Fischer all of Barstow; grandaughter, Amanda Taylor of Barstow; David's parents, Dolores and Bobby Taylor of West Virginia, brothers, Dana and Greg Taylor both of West Virsginia; step-sons, Greg Lundin, Matthew Chambers and Johnny Chambers all of Yermo.
A Celebration of Dave's life will be held at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2010, at the Church Chapel at the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Barstow.
Arrangements entrusted to Horizon Memorial Services of Barstow. 760-252-5222.
