Desi Sanchez
Desiderio "Desi" Sanchez, 83, passed away Jan. 3, 2011 at his home. He was born July 24, 1927 in Tomé, New Mexico, and has lived in Barstow over 60 years.
Desi was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, and The Knights of Columbus for many years. He was a member of the Mounted Sheriff Posse with the Desert Search and Rescue, and worked as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic Supervisor at Yermo, retiring after 34 years.
Among Desi's hobbies were hunting and fishing, and he made many camping trips with his sons when they were growing up. In later years, Desi enjoyed going to Stateline to "practice" his gaming techniques.
Surviving Desi are his sons, Julian Sanchez and his wife, Margaret of Rancho Cucamonga, Clarence Sanchez and his wife, Cindy of Barstow, Matthew Sanchez and his wife, Jayne of Newberry Springs, and LeRoy Sanchez and his wife, DeDe of Newberry Springs; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services for Desi will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 505 E. Mt. View. Visitation and Rosary will be on Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011. The visitation will start at 6 p.m., with the Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2011 at 10 a.m., with burial to follow at Mt. View Memorial Park, 37067 Irwin Road.
