ELMER LENZ Obituary

ELMER MARVIN LENZ SR. Elmer Marvin Lenz, born December 20, 1921 went home to the Lord on August 29, 2012 in Peoria, AZ. Elmer was born in San Antonio, TX to August and Olga Lenz. He grew up in Prescott, AZ. He married Helen Putney on April 26, 1943. Elmer and Helen lived in Victorville for 65 years where they raised their family. Elmer worked at many locations throughout Arizona and New Mexico for the Santa Fe Railroad as a telegrapher. In 1947, Elmer took a position with the railroad at the Victorville depot. He later went to work for Southwest Portland Cement in Oro Grande. Upon retirement, he worked for Victoria Motors in Victorville where he sold what he loved, Porsches, Audis and Volkswagens. Elmer was a founding member and helped to build the original Zion Lutheran Church located on the corner of Lacy and Mojave Streets. He was head elder and president of the congregation for many years. Later, Elmer and Helen became active members at St. John Lutheran Church in Victorville. Elmer is survived by his wife of 69 years, Helen, his children, Margaret Wilhour (Paul) of Surprise AZ, Elmer Lenz Jr. of Victorville, CA and Debra Santi (Larry) of Bellevue, WA, six grandchildren, Amy Wilhour Hewitson (Bob) of Kirkland, WA, Sheri Wilhour Garver (Kevin) of Peoria, AZ, Jill Santi Velez (Donovan) of Bellevue, WA, Nicole Santi Wetzel (Andrew) of Sammamish, WA, Edward Lenz of Victorville and Michael Lenz of Victorville, 10 great grandchildren, nieces, and many friends. Elmer was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, Gordon, and sister, Adeline. He enjoyed restoring cars, Dodgers Baseball, Lakers Basketball and backyard barbeques with his family. His sense of humor and quick wit will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held for Elmer on Saturday, October 6, 2012 at St. John Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. with a reception following in the fellowship hall. The church is located at 16700 Green Tree Blvd Victorville, CA The family requests in lieu of flowers please make donations to St. John Lutheran Church in Elmer's name or donate to a charity of your choice.
