Alan Raun Obituary

"Doc" Alan Reed Raun

Cumming - On Friday, November 8th, "Doc" Alan Reed Raun joined the love of his life, Dotty, in heaven. He was born in Sioux City, Iowa, on June 3, 1927. He graduated from Storm Lake High School, served in the U.S. Army, and graduated from Iowa State Veterinary College. Alan and Dorothy Ann Dillan married on July 30, 1949, lived in Ottumwa for ten years where he practiced veterinary medicine. In 1961, the family moved to the present Reedannland farm at Cumming where he practiced veterinary medicine and raised American Saddlebred horses and Hackney ponies.

From a young age, Doc enjoyed the ponies and horses. Reedannland became his vocation, raising and training many champions. Reedannland's bloodlines are known throughout the industry.

He and Dotty felt very blessed to live in the caring community of Norwalk. They wanted to give back and donated some land for the Lakewood school and the five-acre park in Lakewood. They hosted fundraisers at the barn for the Norwalk Easter Library and other charity events.

Doc is survived by his children Rebecca (Mark) Westberg, Beth (Craig) Rowles, Peg (Ron) Johnston, Jeff Raun, Kate Raun, Terry (Kate) Raun, fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren and a sister Connie Raun Foss.

Visitation will be Sunday, November 24th at O'Leary's in Norwalk from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, November 25th at Norwalk Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at 10:00 a.m.

Memorials may directed to Norwalk Schools Nutrition Department, MStM Hot Lunch Donation Fund, or Norwalk Food Pantry.

What an amazing man Doc was. He and Dottie were the greatest couple ever. Their friendliness, love and welcoming nature was one of a kind. Doc gave me some very good advice on my pets and generously shared his horse manure to us for our garden. What a memorable and fantastic legend his was and Dottie complimented that with her very presence. They will both be missed immensely!!!

Doc,
I will miss your open arms with the warm hugs you always gave me when I came to see you at horse shows. You always treated me like family.

Doc, you will be missed by so many people more than you will ever know, especially your wonderful family. You and Dottie raised amazing children and I know you were so proud. I so appreciated all your advice for my many furry friends. You were the GREATEST!!!!
