Mary McClellan

McCLELLAN, Mary July 2, 1923-January 8, 2008 On January 8, 2008, Mary McClellan passed away peacefully in the presence of her family following a long illness. Although she lived in Edmonton for over fifty years, Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland was her place of birth and the place that she thought of as home. Mary leaves behind Liam, her loving husband and partner in all things for more than 63 years. Mary will be missed by her sons Jim, Gerrard (Margaret), Tony (Hilaria) and daughters Margaret (Ted) Shepherd, and Trudy. She also leaves behind five grandchildren, Jeremy (Suzy) Shepherd, Cathy (Jim) Finlin, Sarah (Peter) Campbell, Liam Shepherd and Liam McClellan and five great-grandchildren Josh, Haley, Chloe, Chelsea and Emma. Mary will also be remembered by her devoted friend of more than 40 years, Betty Flynn. Mary is survived by four sisters; Dora (UK), Philomena (Toronto), Peggy and Theresa (Ireland) and brothers Michael (UK) and Jerry (Ireland). Mary left her beloved Ireland in 1943 to seek a better life for her family first in England, then in Canada, and settling in Edmonton in 1957. Mary helped to establish a life in Canada through a variety of jobs, finally retiring in 1984 as the first forewoman in the University of Alberta's Physical Plant Operations. Mary and Liam spent many great years traveling and enjoying their property in Point Roberts, Washington, before Mary's illness limited her activities. Her family would like to express their deeply felt gratitude to the staff of Holyrood Extended Care for the care and respect she received during her final years. A Prayer Service will be held at St. Theresa (Millwoods) Roman Catholic Church, 7508-29 Avenue on Sunday, January 13 at 8:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will also be held at St. Theresa's on Monday, January, 14 at 11:00 a.m., followed by internment at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery, 4804-Meridian Street (Highway 216).
