Brendan Mahoney Obituary
An Irish style celebration of life will be on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at Hamilton's on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines; visitation from 3 to 8 p.m., with the celebration at 6:30 p.m. Internment will be on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Georgetown, IA at 12:00 noon.
Brendan was born on July 17, 1978 in Des Moines to loving parents Bernard and Barbara Mahoney. He grew up in Beaverdale and Johnston and graduated from Johnston High School in 1997. Brendan and his brother Shawn were precarious and competitive in their adventures of life together. On these adventures Bernie and Barb guided and instilled them with the core values of life and family.
Summer vacations and fishing trips in northern Minnesota were a staple of Brendan's youth. Trips to Georgetown and Melrose, IA taught Brendan to embrace his Irish heritage.
As an adult, Brendan was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and four-wheeling. Brendan spent time at this family's homestead in Georgetown, IA know to his family as "down Home". Brendan was well known and loved in the area and contributed both time and funds to the restoration efforts of St. Patrick's Church in Georgetown, IA.
Brendan owned and operated several successful businesses including Mahoney Contracting. He was a hardworking, fun loving Irish man who truly valued his family and friendships. His mischievous smile lit up every room and he brought joy and laughter to everyone he met.
He is survived by his parents; brother, Shawn; niece, Anna Grace; nephew, Bentlee; maternal grandmother, June Utley; aunt, Becky Olson; goddaughter, Charlotte Carmichael; and girlfriend, Diana Connolly. Brendan will be forever missed by his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Frances Mahoney and his grandfather, Dude Olson.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to the Brendan Mahoney memorial fund at Veridian Credit Union. Online condolences may be made at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Brendan was a great guy and will be missed. I remember him spending a lot of time at my house getting into trouble with my bro. But he was always a blast to be around. God bless the Mahoney familly and his friends left behind.

I've known Brendan as an aquaintance and distant cousin for awhile. I had a chance this year to spend four months with him while he remodeled our office space. Working with him was awesome! He ALWAYS made you laugh. You could tell how important his family and his heritage was to him. He made me proud to be Irish too. Hes the kind of friend that would be there in an instant. In fact he did help us move our office furniture! He brought his lift truck, dollies, and two of his younger cousins to do the heavy lifting!! haha..."Earning their keep"as he called it. He was one of the greats and will be truly missed!

Mine isn't the only heart that is broken with your passing Brendan. You were one of the orneriest people I ever met and I can't remember a moment of being around you that I wasn't having fun. You were truly one of a kind and this world suffered a great loss when you left us. I love, miss you and will forever cherrish the memories. Thank you being part of my life. I haven't seen Brendan in a few years, but the memeries I have of him will stay with me forever. From ridding in his sizuki out to AJ's farm, to the party's at the white house. Or even just hanging out in Johnston. You will be greatly missed, but never forgotten!!

I haven't seen Brendan in a long time. But the memories I have of all the good times we had throughout high school, and after, will stay with me forever. The partys at the white house, ridding in your sizuki out to AJ's farm for a kegger, or even just hanging out in Johnston. You will be truely missed my friend. But never forgotten!

Brendan's passing has profoundly effected us...even though we hadn't seen him in years. That's the kind of effect he had on everyone he knew. His smile, his goofiness, his playful attitude...he was always so fun to be around.
We have such great memories...partying with him weekend after weekend, the straight road, and pulling pranks on the school. A fond memory was our first time we went to Apple River...we showed up late and there was a gigantic party going on at the camp site. And as we pull up closer...who's right smack in the middle of it...Brendan. :)
He treated us like we were part of his family. We will miss him and hopefully will learn from his passing to hug family and friends tighter and tell them we love them more often. It's too bad a death has to happen for us to realize how precious our relationships are, but maybe that's a small gift he can give those of us who want to honor his life. Our deepest sympathies to the whole family and all his friends.
