Brian Applegate Obituary

Brian Douglas Applegate

Des Moines

Brian Douglas Applegate was born October 1, 1949 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Ward and Kathryn Applegate. He passed away Monday, June 8, 2015 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston due to cancer. He was 65 years old.

Brian didn't suffer with pain very long; it was a very short illness. He was called to heaven and welcomed by his parents, his mother-in-law, Shirley Porter, and his step-son, Peter Brown who was only 42 when he died.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Susan, sisters, Shirlee Matthews of Ft. Collins, CO, Nancy Stout of Omaha, NE, and Donna (Jeff) Price of Locust Grove, VA, brother-in-law, Michael (Brenda) Porter of Clear Lake, and his two little kitties, Sid and Sam.

When Brian first moved to Des Moines, he resided in downtown, working at Iowa Safety. Even though he was advised not to, he and Sue moved to the southside to "Little Italy" and were immediately welcomed into the southside family. They have loved every moment they have lived there.

Brian worked for Parts Krafters, Co. in Cummings for many years. He enjoyed his family, his two kitties, fantasy football, all types of music, and mowing off Sue's flowers. Once you knew Brian, you would really enjoy his very dry sense of humor. He would sit at his computer for hours listening to all kinds of music.

He will be missed by his friends and family but his memory will be with us while he is just asleep and not suffering anymore. Brian's eyes will benefit two people that will receive them through his selfless act of donation.

A celebration of Brian's life will be held at a later date. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
