Brian Soukup Obituary

Brian Joseph Soukup

Grimes

Brian Joseph Soukup, 45, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011, after a courageous battle against pancreatic cancer. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2011, at Assumption Catholic Church in Granger, followed by burial at Sunny Hill Cemetery in Grimes.

Brian was born on October 12, 1966 to George and Glena Soukup. He graduated in 1985 from Norfolk Senior High School in Norfolk, Nebraska. Brian attended Wayne State College before moving to Omaha, Nebraska where he later met his wife and best friend of 21 years, Nancy Ludemann. Brian and Nancy married on October 6, 1990 and together they raised three beautiful daughters, Melissa Kay, Kimberly Marie, and Jessica Lynn. They lived in Omaha, Nebraska for 16 years until moving to their current residency of Grimes, Iowa in 2006.

Brian had a larger-than-life personality and could become friends with any person he met. He touched the lives of many with his caring, loving, and tender heart. For thirteen straight years, Brian coached his daughters in soccer, basketball and softball. But most importantly, he was a mentor and teacher every day of their lives. Brian was an avid Chargers and Huskers fan, and in any spare time in the summer, he loved to be out on the lake with his family.

Those left behind to cherish Brian's memory include: his loving wife, Nancy; three daughters, Melissa, Kimberly, and Jessica; his father, George, and mother, Glena. Brian also leaves to mourn: father-in-law, Bill Ludemann; brothers-in-law, Steve (Paulette) Ludemann, Mike (Ellen) Ludemann, and Joe (Sue) Ludemann; as well as many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Ann Ludemann, and grandparents, George and Dolores Courtney, and Adolf and Ethel Soukup.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Assumption Church in Granger where a vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network or Mercy Hospice in Johnston.

The family would like to thank his oncologist Dr. Thomas Buroker, and nurses, Michelle and Pat. Also to be thanked are Drs. Lederhaas, Kollmorgen, and Bussey, the nurses of Powell 3, and the staff at Mercy Hospice.

To Brian's Family ~ My prayers are with you. Brian was a wonderful person. He was sincere, kind and thoughtful. I knew him 20 years ago when I worked at the bank. He was absolutely one of our very favorite customers. He was a great man.

Dear Soukup Family:

We are so sorry for your loss and our thoughts and prayers are with you in this difficult time. I have known Brian since I was in grade school and we spent a lot of time together as kids. I also had the honor of working with Brian and his parents over the years. I always admired Brian's “Don't be afraid to try something new” attitude as he always stayed positive and had encouraging words for others. Brian had a lot to be thankful for and will be missed by many

Nancy, Melissa, Kimberly & Jessica:
On behalf of myself, my family and the Knights of Columbus let me extend my deepest condolences.

Brian will be greatly missed. I will remember him as a good father and a fun-loving Knight of Columbus. His sense of humor and jovial nature made him a joy to be around.

He will be remembered in a daily mass at St. Mary's Church in New Haven, CT where Fr. Michael J. McGivney established the Knights in 1882 with all brother Knights and their wives.

If there is anything we can do, please don't hesitate to call.

I am so sorry for your loss. Brian made a huge difference in the lives of those who cared for him during his courageous battle. I only knew him for a short time, but he really knew how to teach others what courage and strength was all about. And his love for his girls and Nancy was amazing, you could see it in his eyes each time he spoke about them.

Nancy and Girls,

I was very captivated by Brian's larger than life personality. He was such a joy to care for. I throughly enjoyed my time serving as his medical provider. I will certainly miss him. He exhibited tremendous courage in his battle with cancer. I learned a great deal from his over powering faith in God. His spirituality will leave a lasting impression on my personal faith journey. I look forward to meeting him again in a better place. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.
