Charlotte Elmets Obituary

Charlotte Elmets

Des Moines

Charlotte Elmets, a life long resident of Des Moines, died peacefully Thursday night in her residence at the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center. She chose not to reveal her age in life and has taken the exact number of her years to the grave with her. A devoted wife and widow of Dr. Harry Elmets, sister of Sylvia Wolff of San Antonio, mother of Craig, Steven and Douglas Elmets, doting aunt and grandmother, Charlotte was the founder of Charlotte Elmets, Ltd., a party and event planning business. She was a congregant of Temple B'nai Jeshurun and a member of its board for fifty years as she was of the Iowa Jewish Senior Life Center.

Charlotte Elmets was a doyenne of taste. She brought her good taste to everything that she did. Her inimitable sense of style pervaded all aspects of her life. She used her skills for the benefit of a range of philanthropic causes. Her great delight though, was to bring aspects of beauty and elegance to everything that she did and to everyone whom she touched - friends, loved ones, clients alike.

A funeral will be held for Charlotte on Sunday, February 5th at 11:00 am at her beloved Temple B'nai Jeshurun. If you would like to make a contribution in her memory, please send it to the Iowa Jewish Life Center or Temple B'nai Jeshurun. May her memory be a blessing for all who knew her.

Charlotte was the consummate entertainer and host! We miss assisting with her legendary Galas and smaller fun moments like The Princess Diana Wedding brunch at 5:00 am!

My family and the Des Moines Embassy Club's condolences to the Elmets. Charlotte was a consummate entertainer and we are all proud to have worked for her knowing that our efforts were involved with what was always the best party in town!
Many great memories, (and in the end aren't those the most precious), were made for her clients and for ourselves. One favorite for me was arriving at the Elmet's home at 3:30 AM in the morning to cater Charlottes brunch for Lady Di and the British Royal Wedding. You guessed it Tiara's, Gowns and Gloves as the sun rose! Only Charlotte could have pulled that one off.

My heartfelt condolences to Charlotte's family, of course, but also to all who knew her since she added so much to the lives of so many. It was always Charlotte's delight to make the people around her feel special and she succeeded with great poise and assurance. She knew how to engage with everyone in personal ways that made them feel acknowledged and recognized. Well, now it is our turn to acknowledge and recognize what a wonderful presence Charlotte was in our own lives.

My most heartfelt Sympathy goes out to the family of Charlotte Elmets. What a beautiful person inside and out. Dr. Harry Elmets literally saved my Son's life with his very rare disease he had. Dr. Elmets was the only Doctor in the USA to know what it was. Chris being the only juvenile in Medical History to have, is still alive because of these wonderful emotional, giving and thoughtful people, the phone calls to a Single Parent scared to death. The emotional support they gave of themselves to us, and others will never be forgotten. Mrs. Elmets was a inspiration to all who knew her.
