Darlene A. Simpson, 81, died Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, May 13, 2011 at Iles Funeral Homes Grandview Park Chapel where a Prayer Service will be held at 6 p.m.

Darlene was born January 19, 1930 to Alfred and Pearl (Blair) Kellogg in Logan, Iowa. Her family moved to Des Moines in 1942, where she was married to Clifford Simpson on December 1, 1948. Darlene lived in Des Moines most of her life with her family and enjoyed the simple things in life, like taking care of her family, cooking and their home.

Survivors include her children: Wayne (Carol) Simpson of Utah, Gary (Lin) Simpson of Des Moines, Karen Simpson of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren (and two more on the way); brother, Paul Kellogg of Des Moines; sister, Marjorie Tinlin of Carlisle. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifford, step-son Marvin McDonald, brothers Gerald, Phillip and Bobby Kellogg, sister, Mary Danilson and her grandson, Trae Kittell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Hospice of Central Iowa.
