Douglas Christensen, 78, passed away at Mercy Hospice in Johnston on March 5, 2009.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2009 at Merle Hay Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 8, at the funeral home.
Doug was born December 23, 1930 to Edward and Lillian Christensen. He married Velma Rockow on June 1, 1952 near Williams, Iowa. Doug loved working in the garden, cooking, watching animals and fishing.
Doug was preceded in death by his wife Velma; his parents Edward and Lillian; two brothers, Edward Jr. and Carl; sister Barbara; and granddaughter Whitney Nicole Christensen. He is survived by his children, Richard (Nancy) of Plaquemine, LA, Vickie of West Des Moines, John (Doreen) of Granger; five grandchildren, Amber, Alex, Cally, Colin and Jenna; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Logan.
