Edna Koscielak Obituary

Edna Koscielak

Des Moines

Remembered by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as a woman of grace and compassion, the passing of Edna Koscielak leaves her family to mourn a matriarch with a bottomless wellspring of love to give.

Edna was born June 18, 1924 in Sheldon, IA and passed away April 10, 2016 in Des Moines, IA. She grew up on a farm in northwest Iowa during the depression where she learned to conserve her resources. She always had a garden, canning and freezing many foods. She was a great cook and provided many wonderful meals for her family. Edna also enjoyed a wide variety of flowers, including roses and daylilies. In her younger days she loved fishing and blueberry picking in MN by the family cabin. She was very close to nature.

Edna was married for 57 years to George Koscielak who preceded her in death in 2008. Her parents, Cecil and Gladys, and brother Wayne also predeceased her. She is survived by her children: Janet (Rick), McCook, NE, Susan, Des Moines, and John (Karlene), Pengilly, MN. Eight grandchildren (Amy, Emily, Jessica, Daniel, Joseph, Jacob, and Kaylee) came to her bedside from out of state to show their love. Edna treasured their love and that of her 8 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Vera in CA.

A private family graveside ceremony will take place at a later date in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Primghar, Iowa.

We love her and will keep her in our hearts forever.

My Mom was always there to support her family and friends through good and bad times. While at hospice she put the needs of her family ahead of her own. Her advice was always solid and I will always remember her telling me, "try not to worry". She will always live on in our hearts with so many wonderful memories. Her entire family loved her so much and that is a tribute to her.

My Mom was many things to me: a good listener, a supporter, a comforter, an advice giver, a teacher of so many things, a great role model for kindness and caring. But most of all, I knew without a doubt ever that she loved me deeply. I will love her forever.
