Edward Schiller Obituary
Urbandale
Edward G. Schiller, Sr., 94, passed into heaven Sunday, January 13, 2013, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, January 16, 2013, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery.
Ed was born August 23, 1918, in Aurora, IL, to John and Margaret (Wermes) Schiller. He married Bette J. Brown in 1938 in South Bend, IN. The couple moved to Des Moines in 1946. Ed was the owner and operator of Schiller Opticians until his retirement in 1979. He finished his optical career at Parkway Optical in West Des Moines. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church and proudly served his community through Knights of Columbus, Serra Club, Dowling Club, Bishop Drumm Guild, St. Vincent DePaul Society and Score.
Survivors include his children, Ronald (Cheryl) Schiller of Clive, Michael Schiller of Gardenerville, NV, Edward (Debra) Schiller of Norwalk; eleven grandchildren; seven plus great-grandchildren; sister, Clarice (George) Pearce of Oswego, IL. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, several siblings, wife Bette, daughter, Annette and son, Jimmy.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2013, at Westover Funeral Home where a Vigil service will begin at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church Foundation, Mercy Hospice, Dowling Catholic High School or Deerfield Retirement Community. Ed was a kind and caring person who we got to know at Deerfield. We will miss seeing him but know that he has finally found his way home. May God's peace and love be with the Schiller family.
