Garnetta Jones Obituary

Garnetta Fern Jones, 96, of Winterset, Iowa, died Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Greater Regional Hospice House in Creston, Iowa. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, December 16, at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery.
Garnetta was born on April 16, 1914, in Madison County, Iowa to Lloyd & Margaret (Picken) Jones and had been a lifetime resident of Winterset and Madison County. Garnetta had been a schoolteacher, having taught in country schools and for the Winterset and Des Moines school systems. She was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church.
Garnetta is survived by her sister-in-law, Charlene Jones of Oelwein; brother-in-law, LaVerne Grubbs of Creston; several nieces; and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd & Margaret (Picken) Jones; brother, Lyle A. Jones; and sisters, Kathryn Ford, Thelma Jones, Gerrie Grubbs, and Doris Boots.
Visitation will be Wednesday from noon to 8 p.m. at McCalley-Collins Funeral Home. Memorials given to the family will be directed to Greater Regional Hospice in Creston.
