Slater
J. Rodney Krause, 82, of Slater passed away April 1, 2016. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 pm Monday, April 4 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Funeral services will begin at 10:30am Tuesday, April 5 also at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
J. Rodney Krause was born to WH and Ruby (Hitz) Krause on February 27, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was baptized and later confirmed in the Salem Reformed Church in Alleman, IA. Rodney graduated from Slater High School in 1952. While in school he enjoyed playing baseball and basketball. He was president of his senior class, homecoming King and salutatorian. After graduation Rodney attended Simpson College for one year before enlisting in the Army. In 1954 he married Florence Twit. They lived in Kentucky until he was discharged in 1955 from the 508 Airborne Regimental Combat Division. In 1956 Rodney and Florence moved back to Slater area where he began to farm.
Rodney enjoyed volunteering his time on various boards. He served on the Heartland Co-op board, South Story Bank (27 years) as well as the church board as a deacon, trustee and later Vice President. Rodney retired from farming in 1991. Rodney and Florence enjoyed spending the winter months in Texas.
Rodney is survived by his wife of 62 years, Florence Twit; children Bill (Diane) Krause and Bob (Julie) Krause all of Slater; grandchildren, Jason (Ann) Krause, Jill (Jesse) Craighton, Kristen (John) McMains, Kelli Jo (Seth) McGregor, Michael (Natalie) Krause, Nicole Krause, John Krause and Josie Walker, and Daniel Krause; great grandchildren Caden, Katelyn, Jentry, Jace, Jance, Willy, Nora Jo, Royce and Camden; sister-in-laws Barb Krause, Fran Twit and Kathryn (Gerald) Schaudt.
Rodney is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dr. Charles Krause.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
