Jo and I became friends over 40 years ago in Dows, when I was teaching there. My students told me I should meet Jo, as she and I were a lot alike! That started a friendship that survived the test of time. She and I both had severe illnesses that we could share, and realized the pain it caused our families. When we were in Iowa at Christmas we shared a wonderful meal at Noah's Ark, and lots of laughs. When I spoke to her a couple of weeks ago, she shared the challenges she was facing, and how she wanted to handle them. I told her is was her decision. I know that she reached that decision with God in her life.
I send my love and prayers to your family, Roger, Anne, Georgina, and Stewart--as well as the many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. I know you are all much happier for having shared Jo's life.
With much love, Bob & Nan (Merriam) Dickson

I'm very saddened with the news of Jo's passing. I didn't know Jo very long but in the short time she was a part of my life, I can attest that Jo was one of the most compassionate people that I've had the privilege of knowing. In the past few years, Jo was my parents' guardian angel. She lived across the street from them and provided support and comfort in innumerable ways. She constantly checked in on them which gave them a sense of security. She'd do anything they needed or even just to say a quick hello. It didn't matter what day or time it was, even dealing with her own ails, Jo would always give of herself. I'm lucky to have known her and I'm eternally grateful for everything she did. I'm going to miss her.
