John "Kent" Borgaard

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday, March 1st at First Christian Church, 101 South Rancho Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89106.

J. Kent Borgaard was born to Ray and Ethyl Borgaard. Surviving him in life is his wife Mary G. Borgaard of Las Vegas, NV and his brother Weldon Borgaard of Cheyenne WY.

Kent married Mary (Goodson) Borgaard in 1950 and together they raised four children.

He also has (14) grandchildren, (19) great grandchildren and (5) great-great grandchildren.

Kent served in the Korean War in the US Navy on the USS Boxer and the USS Princeton.

He worked many different jobs providing for his family as he attended the seminary to become a pastor as his father had been. Through the years his pastoral services took him to Pleasantville, IA, Sioux Falls, SD, Des Moines, IA, Elkhart, IN and Las Vegas, NV.

He was an avid writer and published two books.

He counseled married couples through his work at Oaklawn Center in Indiana in his "Recovery of Hope" program. He helped people through AA and addictions. He was the ear that everyone and anyone could bend and he'd listen intently.

Kent was a man of little needs, a good sunset, a glass of wine with friends and he was content. He often said "leave the world a better place than you found it and the rest will work itself out". He was the messenger of hope and joy.

He will always be pictured by his family rising from his bed in the dark because the words in his mind had finally put themselves together, in a way that had danced ahead of his consciousness during the waking hours. Careful not to disturb the household, he fumbled in the twilight for his glasses and tiptoed to his office to write it all down. His words were always eloquent and flowed through him to his writings that he loved to share with the world.

He was the "bridge over troubled" water to everyone he ever knew…
