Keith Griggs Obituary

Keith M. Griggs

Dallas Center

Keith Michael Griggs, 65, of Dallas Center, entered eternal life on November 10, 2011 following a brave battle with cancer. The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, November 14, at Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines, where a Celebration of Keith's Life will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 15. Committal services with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Adel.

Keith was born February 15, 1946, to Raymond and Lola Bernadine Griggs. He grew up in Grimes and graduated from Dallas Center-Grimes in 1964. Keith proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1970. He worked full-time for the Iowa Air National Guard and upon retirement from the IANG, he worked for the American Legion and was a National Service Officer for the Paralyzed Veterans of America. He was a proud member of ABATE and PGR. He was also an active member of the Des Moines HOG and the Christian Motorcycle Association.

He treasured his family, especially playing with his grandchildren. Keith loved riding his Harley and spending time with his many friends and beloved dog, "Yogi".

He is survived by his daughters, Amy (Craig) Mueggenberg of Marion and Sarah (Nick) Irlmeier of Grimes; four precious grandchildren, Emily and Luke Mueggenberg and Paige and Cole Irlmeier; one niece, Heather (Eric) Nelson; and one nephew, Chad Gilleney. Keith was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Karen Gilleney.

For those desiring, memorials may be made to either: Iowa Chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America or Van Meter American Legion Post 403 (Community Center Building Project).

His family sincerely appreciates the extraordinary care given to Keith by Doctors Deming and Westberg and their staffs.

He is an inspiration to all.We could all learn a lesson on how he dealt with life. I will miss him. What a courageous guy you were. Ride in heaven.

Keith & I were the best of friends in Dallas Center High School. We spent many a night crusing the area in a red Plymouth with a push button shifter, year (?). We lost contact after hs as we each went separate ways & I left area. As you can see time & distance separated us but his friendship was forever remenbered by me. Thanks to my family for letting me know that a plesant part of my life has passed.

Keith was a very special person and a great friend. He and I went to High School together and ended up working together at the Iowa Air National Guard.
We went to Japan and Korea and to say the least, he made both trips very enjoyable.
He did make a mark on this Earth and we are all better off because of him.
My wife and I send our deepest sympathies to his Family.
