Larry Kitchen Obituary

Larry George Kitchen

Fort Myers Beach, FL

On Sunday, February 13th, 2011, Larry George Kitchen passed away after a tragic fall while vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Born on January 24, 1934 in Ames, Iowa to George and Ann Kitchen, Larry married Janice Kay Ritter on January 18th, 1957. They had two children, Deb Winchester (Paul) of Bargersville, IN, and Jeff Kitchen (Kristi) of Fort McDowell, AZ, and four grandchildren, Matt and Anna Winchester and William and Katelyn Kitchen. Larry had two brothers, Lowell Kitchen (deceased) and Tom Kitchen of Des Moines, Iowa.

Larry attended Clear Lake High School and the University of Iowa before graduating from Drake University in Des Moines in 1959. He served two years in the United States Army prior to college and was stationed in Germany for part of his service.

Upon college graduation, Larry went to work for the Bankers Life Company / Principal Financial Group, where he retired as Manager of Group Sales after a 38-year career. In 1996, he and wife Jan moved to Fort Myers Beach, Florida for retirement. They often wintered in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.

Larry will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his family and his many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Lowell

Larry loved people and was a man of faith in Christ. He found goodness in everyone and considered strangers simply as friends he had yet to meet. He enjoyed any new adventure and loved to laugh and tease. A loving spouse, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Larry leaves the world a better place and set the bar a little higher for us all.

A memorial is established in his name at Chapel by the Sea Presbyterian Church, Fort Myers Beach, Florida, where a service in his memory will be held at a later date.

I thought you were in Florida but didn't know where. We live in The Villages and Jennifer and family live in Ft Myers. Small world.
Tell Jeff and Debbie we are praying for them also.

I was a friend of Larry's son, Jeff. I have very fond memories of sitting around the table in Larry & Jan's home on 82nd talking & laughing. Larry was the kind of dad a lot of us wish we had and I was very lucky to have the Kitchen's in my life. Larry and I share the same B-day.
To all the family, you are in my thoughts & prayers and have ALWAYS been remembered with great affection.
Mrs. Kitchen, Jan, my deepest regards always.

I worked with Larry at Bankers Life/Principal and he was always a great help to me--especially since I was just out of school and learning how to deal with corporate procedures. He was first class and a great person. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers.
