Linda Smith Obituary

Linda (Holmes) Smith

Johnston - Linda Joyce (Holmes) Smith 73, of Johnston, Iowa passed away at Taylor House Hospice on Monday, January 25, 2021.

Linda Joyce Holmes was born on May 27, 1947 in Des Moines, Iowa; she was the daughter of Ethel Lucille Holmes. Linda attended school in the Des Moines Public Schools graduating from Valley High School with the class of 1965. On September 21,1968, Linda was united in marriage to Alan David Smith at Capital Hill Christian Church in Des Moines, Iowa. They made their home in Des Moines and later in Johnston. She worked at Meredith Publishing Corporation and Pioneer Hybrid retiring in 2008. She was a member of the Daughters of American Revolution, and her swim club, The Mermaids. She enjoyed music, reading, traveling, a good meal out, and the Iowa Hawkeyes, but the thing she cherished and enjoyed most was her family and friends.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 52 years Alan, sons, David (Lee) Smith of Des Moines, and Brian (John Schafer) Smith of Cedar Rapids, and a sister, Beverly (Albert) Demkowski of Omaha, and many nieces and nephews.

In death Linda rejoins her mom, Ethel Holmes, and sister, Barbara Wayson.

As the week & months go pass, many memories of Linda play in my mind. Being neighbors for many long years has the best childhood & young adult memories of my life. Even after we both were married, we were blessed to stay in contact & that our husbands were friends also. As Linda's family celebrates Linda's Life, remember I am with you all in spirit. Love, prayers & hugs!

Please accept my sympathy and hope that cherished memories sustain you through your loss. I met Linda when she became a Planned Parenthood volunteer and it was always such a treat to spend time with her when she came in. She made an important impact through her volunteer work and your suggestion of memorial contributions is a wonderful way to honor her memory.

I worked with Linda at Meredith back in the 1970's. We would all go to break together. She was always energetic and fun to talk too. She is one of the few people I remember from there. I hope your memories get you through this sad time. RIP Linda.

I'm so sorry to hear about Linda's passing. We had a lot of fun working together at Pioneer. She was a kind person and a hard worker. One of things I remember are the stories from when she and her sisters would get together. It was like watching the Lucy show. I'm sorry I lost contact after we both left Pioneer. My deepest condolences to Linda's family.
