Loren Tungesvik

Rural Radcliffe - Loren Tungesvik, age 64 of rural Radcliffe, died in a mowing accident at his home on June 30, 2019.

Following his wishes, Loren has been cremated.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, July 6, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church at 14238-500th Avenue, Ames, Iowa 50014, (located northwest of Gilbert). Following the service, Military Honors will be conducted by the Iowa Army National Guard Honors Detail.

Loren Roger Tungesvik, was born in Story City, Iowa on September 15, 1954, the son of Silas 'Si' and Alice (Moon) Tungesvik. He graduate from Roland-Story High School in 1973. Loren soon enlisted in the Iowa Army National Guard, where he served for 40 years and nine months before being discharged on September 15, 2014. He attained the rank of Master Sergeant.

Loren also grain farmed on the family farm in southeastern Hamilton County. It became a Century Farm.

On September 17, 1975, Loren married Cheryl Huffman at the Francis E. Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming. To this union, Kia and Jerad were born. Cheryl died in 1993. On June 10, 1995, Loren married Mary Jo Fitzgerald at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone, Iowa.

During his Military career, Loren became employed at Camp Dodge as Warehouse Supply Specialist and Truck Driver that caused him to change units and become the Supply Sergeant at the Iowa Military Academy. While serving at the Academy, his Unit won the Army Supply Excellence Award and earned a trip to the Pentagon and White House. Loren loved his career with the Iowa Army National Guard. He became a Military Armourer expert and earned many awards and honors during his 40 years.

Loren especially loved spending time with family. He enjoyed old time Rock and Roll music, History, and attending Farm Shows.

He is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Cheryl; son, Jerad in January of 2019; sister, Marilyn Reisetter; brother-in-law, Jack Gordon. Loren is survived by his wife, Mary Jo of rural Radcliffe; his daughter, Kia (Jeff) Woodard of Altoona; sister, Betty Gordon of Ames; two brothers, Carroll (Judy) Tungesvik of Boone and Virgil (Vickie) Tungesvik of Iowa City; four grandchildren, Hayden and Madelyn Woodard of Altoona and Gage and Kaidence 'Kaidee' Tungesvik of Blairstown; special friends, Cory and Darla Wirth, and their children, Alex and Audrey of Brooklyn; and his buddy and companion, his dog, Duke.

Friends may call at the Fellowship Hall of Saints Peter and Paul Church on Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m. On Saturday, friends may call at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.

In memory of Loren, memorials may be directed to the Puppy Jake Foundation of Iowa (Service Dogs for Veterans) or a charity of your choice.

Lot of memories about and with Loren while at the Academy. Always a cheeky smile. He always was great at his position in supply. Got to talk to him at Alumni day too. Memories last forever. My deepest sympathy his family. God bless
