Sr. Marilyn Brinker, CHM, (Sr. Mary Edmund) 71, died April 4, 2015 at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center, Johnston, Iowa. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in Mary Queen of Peace Chapel, Johnston, April 20, 10:30 a.m. Burial of cremated remains will follow in Harlan, IA.

Marilyn Ann Brinker was born May 19, 1943, in Westphalia, IA to Edward and Cleta Hodapp Brinker, Jr. She entered the Congregation of the Humility of Mary on September 8, 1961, and professed vows on July 28, 1964.

Sister Marilyn received a BA in Elementary Education, Marycrest College, Davenport, IA and an MA in Education, Drake University, Des Moines, IA. She had Pastoral Certification from Iowa City, IA, Omaha, NE, and Tulsa, OK.

She taught in Iowa, Texas, Nebraska and Minnesota, including several years at St. Pius X in Des Moines. Marilyn served as chaplain at two hospitals in Oklahoma. She retired in 2008 and moved to Des Moines. Sr. Marilyn wrote inspiring poetry, including a book entitled, A Joy- Filled Journey.

Sr. Marilyn is survived by a brother, Clarence Brinker, Harlan, IA, sisters Jane Toller, Tyler, TX, and Joann Wright, Pueblo, CO., and sister-in-law, Lin Brinker, Harlan, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Kenneth.

Memorials may be made to: Congregation of the Humility of Mary.

My heart is both happy and sad as I read Sister's obiturary. What a sweet woman. I will truly miss her hugs.
