Michael Coltrain Obituary
Des Moines - Michael E. Coltrain, 64, passed away Monday, September 24, 2018. Services will be held 1 pm Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Westover Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, Iowa.
Michael was born December 30, 1953, in Ottumwa, IA, to Delmar and Willa (Hatfield) Coltrain. He married Deborah (Rolison) Coltrain on May 31, 1975, in Ottumwa, IA.
Michael had a great passion for the outdoors and worked as a Park Ranger for US Army Corps of Engineers at Saylorville Lake for 33 years and was fortunate enough to retire over ten years ago.
He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and canoeist who loved teaching those passions to others, especially to his grandchildren. He also loved to watch his grandchildren playing a variety of sports and was often referred to as Grandpa Coltrain by the all the teams. Michael was a great man who truly enjoyed helping others whenever he could.
Michael is survived by his wife, Deborah Coltrain; daughter, Amanda (Garland); sons, Michael W (Julie) Coltrain, Nathaniel (Amber) Coltrain, Jason (MereNette) Coltrain; grandchildren, Rowan, Josie, John, Reganne, Gryzelle, Spencer, Izabella, Jhaivynne, Tucker, Denver; brother, Lonnie (Pam) Coltrain; sister, Linda (Eric) Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends from 11 - 1 pm Saturday, September 29, 2018, at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines. Contributions may be made to the IA DNR Fish and Wildlife Trust Fund so his legacy of teaching others can continue. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
