Patricia Blake Obituary
Ankeny - Patricia (Pat) Ann Blake, 83, passed away on Tuesday, June 2nd at Mercy West Hospital due to complications of congestive heart failure.
Pat was the daughter of Carl and Elise Bonnesen. She grew up in the Danish community of Elk Horn, IA where she went to elementary and high school. She attended Drake University and graduated from the National College of Education in Evanston, IL. Pat made her career as an elementary teacher educating hundreds of children over the years. She taught in St. Louis, California, Le Mars, IA, and twenty-five years with Ankeny Schools.
She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Ankeny for many decades. She was a dedicated Lutheran who attended church regularly. She helped with Sunday school, Bible school, and enjoyed her Lydia Circle group for many years.
Pat loved to travel. She and her husband, Jerry, traveled to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Hawaii, Canada, Caribbean, Mexico, and every state in the U.S. After they both retired, they were snow birds in Arizona for twelve years enjoying the warm winter months. The last several years Pat enjoyed many memorable family trips with her children and grandchildren.
Pat enjoyed reading, playing card games, playing Bunko, shopping, cheering on her favorite football and basketball teams, golf, going to the pool, going for walks, having lunch with family and friends.
Pat is survived by her husband of 47 years, Gerald (Jerry) Blake. Son Todd Christensen (Jennipher) and grandsons Maxwell and Samuel of Wheat Ridge, CO; Daughter Maria Trosper (Matthew) grandchildren Lucas, Madison, and Austin of Ankeny, IA, and many family and friends.
Based on today's restrictions funeral services are being delayed and an announcement will be made later this month regarding celebration of life services.
The family would like to express appreciation to Dr. Craig Stevens and Dr. Shannon Hood for their many years of providing medical care to Pat.

My sincerest sympathy to Pat's family, friends, and colleagues, Pat was one of my daughter's elementary teachers. (I believe K or 1st grade.) Meghan loved her... what a beautiful begin her education. Many, many years later, Pat sent us a photo of Meghan and a little friend working together in her classroom. It meant so much to us. Rest In Peace, Pat, and know that you were loved by many.

Todd, Jerry and Maria,
I was very saddened to hear the news of Pat's passing. She was Ms. Christiansen to me as third grader and Mrs. Blake as a neighbor. Always there to keep Todd and I in line.

So sorry to hear the news about Pat. Our condolences to you -- Jerry, Todd and Maria -- and your families. Pat was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother -- a true lady. We will miss our NTL reunions and having Pat and Jerry stay with us at the lake; we are thankful we had a nice visit with you last fall. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
