Richard Bird, 83, passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2016. He was born on August 17, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Richard proudly served his country in the US Army. He worked as a truck driver for Eagle Food Stores and retired in 2005. Richard was an active member of the Teamsters Local Union. He enjoyed going to casinos and had a love for the outdoors; gardening, fishing and camping with family & friends. Above all, his family meant the world to him and enjoyed every second spent with them.
He is survived by his beloved daughters, Julie Jones, Lori (Jeff) Wolfe, LeeAnn (Kevin) Jones, Tammy (Chuck) Lund, and JoAnn Slater; 11 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; sister, JoAnne Edwards; brother, Leo (June) Bird; and many other loving family members and friends.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Ersie and Myrtle Bird; brothers, Ray and Ralph, Bob, and Jack Bird; and sisters, Gladys Tavenner, Maybelle Swisher, Maxine Prince, and Dorothy Miles.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, September 21, 2016, with funeral service following at 11 a.m., at Hamilton's Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery in Des Moines.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Richard. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
