Robert Albaugh Obituary
Elkhart
Robert Craig Albaugh, 56, passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Friday, August 22nd at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Karla (Barnes), his two sons, Tyler and Logan, his mother Janet, his four brothers, Randall, Thomas, Steven, Michael, and Michael's wife Megan. He is also survived by his parents-in-law Carl and JoAnn Barnes, brother and sister-in-law Tony and Kristine (Barnes) Jacobson. He was preceded in death by his father Donald Albaugh, grandparents Floyd and Nina Albaugh, and William and Elsie Fortune.
Robert was born February 25th, 1958, to Donald and Janet Albaugh. He grew up in Elkhart, IA, and attended North Polk High School where he made lifelong friends while playing basketball, football, and baseball. Rob went on to play college football at Dakota State and attend William Penn University. After college, he worked at Firestone in Des Moines for several years, while also farming with his parents and brothers in Elkhart.
Robert took great interest in supporting his sons, niece Danielle Albaugh, and nephews: Matthew and Bryce Jacobson, Evan, Davis, and Austin Albaugh, in their pursuits and endeavors. He was known for his ability to fabricate and fix; everything from farm equipment to welding projects for friends and family. Some of his favorite hobbies included fishing, listening and singing to music, cooking, and cheering on the Comets, Hawkeyes, Cyclones, and St. Louis Cardinals. A diligent and generous farmer, Rob took particular interest in gardening vegetables at home to cook, enjoy and share. Rob was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and a loyal friend who will be truly missed.
In lieu of memorial flowers- the family requests donations be directed to the Elkhart Christian Church or to the family for further memorial tributes. Viewing will only be at the visitation and will be held at Ankeny Funeral Home, 5-8 P.M. Wednesday, Aug 27th. The funeral will be held at Elkhart Christian Church, 11 A.M. Thursday, August 28th, with burial at the Elkhart Cemetery.
