Ronald E. Heil, 75, passed away on February 21, 2014. All services will be held at First Church of the Open Bible, 2200 Beaver Ave., Des Moines, IA, with visitation on Monday, February 24, 2014 from 5 to 8 p.m., and the funeral service on Tuesday, February 25 at 2:30 p.m. Burial will be at Iowa Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday.

Ronald was born on November 10, 1938 to Elizabeth Ann (Kaufman) and William C. Heil in Story County, IA. He grew up in Marshalltown and also lived in Huxley and Story City. He loved his childhood and his first years of life on the farm. He graduated from St. Mary's High School, Marshalltown, in 1957 and served in the U.S. Army from 1961-1965. Ron spent his career in the grocery industry; retiring from Dahl's in 2008.

Ron enjoyed watching sports of all kinds but his favorite teams were the Iowa State Cyclones and the Chicago and Iowa Cubs. He also enjoyed fishing, biking, reading, Bible study and most of all, time with his family.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cheryl; children, Shelley (Dan) Grizzle, Paula (Jim) Underfer, and Matthew Heil; siblings, Richard (Rosaline) Heil, Caroline Toppenberg, Harold (Irene) Heil, Annabelle Stalzer, Bill (Priscilla) Heil; grandchildren, Nathan, Rachael, Caleb, Amethyst, and Isabella. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, four sisters, and his infant daughter, Elizabeth Ann.
