Rosa Leo Obituary

Rosa Leo was born August 3, 1931 in Campana, Italy, the daughter of Saverio Germinara and Caterina Benevento. She married Antonio Leo on April 6, 1957 in Terravecchia, Italy. Rosa was a devoted wife and loving mother to her two children, appreciating the Italian values of love and family life. She moved to America in 1975 to ensure that her family would always be together. Rosa embraced her new country, became an American citizen in 1980, and was thankful for the opportunities she received.

Rosa decided to take a position as a seamstress with Dickson Industries, eventually retiring in the mid-1990s. As a true Italian woman, her passions were cooking, taking care of the family, reminiscing about old times, and enjoying the company of good friends and family. Even though she was physically in the United States, her mind, spirit, and soul were always running and playing in the beautiful Italian countryside of her homeland.

Rosa ("Nonna") died at Iowa Methodist Medical Center surrounded by her loving family on January 23, 2011. She is survived by her son, Giovanni (Lori) Leo; daughter, Teresina; her sister, Teresa Spataro of Rome; four grandchildren: Anthony, Adriano, Alessandra, and Annamaria; as well as several nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly. Rosa was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 53 years, Antonio; and brother, Pietro Germinara.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 28, 2011 at St. Anthony Catholic Church with burial to follow at Glendale Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, at Brooks Funeral Care ~ Tonini Chapel with a Rosary service at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be left to the St. Anthony Catholic Church Grotto Fund.

Giovanni and Theresa, you and your family are in my prayers at this sad time. My extreme sympathy and may peace be with you all. I will miss her, too.

Theresa, oops, I mean Teresina: I am so sad for your loss of your mother. I know it will be difficult for you for awhile, but you have to remember all the great memories that puts your smile on your face and to also remember she is at a better place now. Her husband was waiting for her, so now they are reunited. I really don't like to deal with such sadness myself, however, the memories are always in your heart forever. I won't say or do anything funny here, but wait till I see you soon. I'll put that big smile back on your face.

My prayers are with you and I hope you to shall receive some peace. You did an outstanding job taking care of your parents, like myself and believe me, that is one thing I am grateful about. I'm glad I was there to help. When you think about that alone, you will feel great peace inside you.

Love ya and miss ya.

Your best and only friend,
Nancy Economaki

Teresina, I am thinking of you in the loss of your mother. When we worked together, many years ago, I always admired the closeness of your family. You are in my thoughts. Louise
