Ruth Potthast Obituary

Ruth Potthast, 94, died Thursday, December 16, 2010 at Allegent Health Mercy Hospital in Corning, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11 a.m., Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Minburn United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery in Minburn.

Ruth was born March 19, 1916 on the family farm, in Sac County, Iowa to Henry and Ida Mae Zimmer. She married Alvin W. Potthast on December 12, 1936 in Nemaha, IA and to this union, two daughters were born, Joanne and Janyce.

Ruth was a member of the Minburn United Methodist Church, where she and her husband volunteered as custodians for many years. She was a member of the Methodist Women's Club and Priscilla Club. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and playing cards. Ruth was known for her cakes, pies and delicious saads.

Survivors include her two daughters, Joanne DeYoung of Corning, IA and Jan Evans of Urbandale, IA; four grandchildren, Jeff (Debbie) DeYoung of Glenwood, IA, Jayanne DeYoung of Corning, IA, Laura (Chris) Fine of Lathrop, MO, Steve (Michele) Smith of Urbandale, IA; nine great-grandchildren, Chris Webb, Michael Webb and Kaitlyn DeYoung, all of Corning, Josh DeYoung and Rachel DeYoung, both of Glenwood, IA, and Megan Fine, Maressa Fine, Nathan Fine and Brendan Fine, all of Lathrop, MO; great-great-granddaughter, Zoey De Young of Corning; and a host of many nieces, nephews and friends. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband and son-in-law, Jack Evans.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of Joanne DeYoung.
