Sandra Roehrick Obituary

Sandra S. (Sandie) Roehrick

Des Moines

Sandra Sue Roehrick, peacefully passed from this life and into the loving arms of her Lord on Sunday, May 26, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with end stage renal disease.

Sandie, was born on June 24, 1944 in Gillette Grove, IA, to August and Maxine Burdette. Sandie graduated from Gillette Grove High School in 1962 and came to Des Moines, where she attended AIB . During this time she started her own business transcribing, editing and helping students and professors at Drake University with the final preparation of their thesis and dissertations. Later she became a paralegal and secretary managing her husband John's law firm for over 30 years.

She was unsurpassed as a typist/stenographer. Sandie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and her faith was very important to her. She will be forever remembered for her compassion, heart of gold and her kind and generous spirit! She loved her flowers and gardening and enjoyed experimenting with new recipes from her favorite Food Network Shows (and was secret fan of World Wide Wrestling!) Most important was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren: Joshua Roehrick, Meegan Murray, Katelyn Murray, Marissa Kossoff, Jeremy Roehrick, Nicholas Kossoff, Casey Murray, John Koll, Connor Murray, Jack Roehrick and Elizabeth Koll. Sandie will be lovingly remembered by her husband, John Roehrick, her sisters, Marie (Wendell) Conover, Lincoln, NE; Audrey (Mark) Calmer, Manson, IA; Jane (Dan) Gray, Logan IA and the loves of her life - her children: Robin (Andy) Kossoff, West Des Moines, IA; Shannon (Kevin) Murray, Cedar Rapids IA; Heidi (Chris) Koll, Urbandale, IA, John (Jill) Roehrick, West Des Moines, IA; and James (Jennifer) Roehrick, Richmond, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her brother Jerry Burdette, granddaughter, Riley Ann Murray, and father August and mother Maxine Burdette. Though, she was challenged in her last years of life by the diseases which became her final undoing she never lost her sense of humor and love of life. Her family will be forever grateful and wish to express their thanks for the counsel, treatment and care to all of the medical community who made her final journey tolerable.

Visitation will be held at the Westover Funeral Home on Sunday, June 2, from 3 to 5 p.m. with services on Monday, June 3, at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. Contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church or John Stoddard Cancer Center - Care Coordinator Program.

To know Sandie was to love her. Working with Sandie on John's 1986 senate race was a treat. She was serious, thoughtful, and always with a sense of humor.
Sandie was the epitome of a class act.
My condolences, John. I hope your memories of her comfort you and your family.
