Scott Pearson Obituary

Scott Pearson

Knoxville, Iowa - Charlie Scott Pearson, age 79, of Knoxville entered fully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, February 24th, 2018, at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Visitation for Scott will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, February 27th, 2018, at the Winfield Funeral Home in Knoxville. Scott's family will greet friends at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 28th, 2018, at the Faith Baptist Church in Knoxville, with Pastor Josh Spencer officiating. Military honors will follow the services. Burial will be held in Graceland Cemetery in Knoxville at a later date.

Scott was born on March 18, 1938, to Frank Walter and Beulah Lee (DeHeer) Pearson. Scott and his ten brothers and sisters were raised in Knoxville. Scott graduated from Knoxville High School in 1956. After graduation, Scott worked as a part-time rural mail carrier and attended basic training for the Iowa National Guard. From 1959 to 1974, Scott worked full-time with the United States Post Office. Scott also served in the Iowa National Guard for over 20 years and served full-time from 1974 to 1978. Scott then went on to work at the V.A. Medical Center in Knoxville from 1978 to 1994. During these years, Scott also farmed row crops and raised livestock with the assistance of Joyce and his sons.

On September 26, 1959, Scott and Joyce Ann Langstraat were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Monroe, Iowa. Scott and Joyce shared over 58 wonderful years of marriage and were blessed with two sons, Kurtis Scott and Kevin Lee. Scott and Joyce raised their sons on a farm outside of Knoxville and in 1989 they moved to an acreage just north of town. In September 2016, Scott and Joyce sold the acreage and moved into town.

Scott was a humble servant of God. He was one of the charter members of the Faith Baptist Church and he served as deacon for many years. Scott cherished his time with his family and friends and loved attending his grandchildren's activities. Known for his sense of humor, Scott made many close friends who enjoyed his company and will miss him dearly. Scott greatly enjoyed helping others and could often be found fixing tools and equipment. He also enjoyed farming, maintaining his acreage, and cruising around town in a classic '64 Chevy convertible that was restored by his son, Kevin.

Scott is survived by his wife of 58 years, Joyce Pearson of Knoxville; two sons, Kurtis Pearson and wife Sandra of West Des Moines and Kevin Pearson and wife Ginger of Norwalk; eight grandchildren Jonathan Pearson, Benjamin Pearson and wife Eden, Katheryn Thorson and husband Adam, Alicia Oberkircher and husband Garrett, Caleb Pearson, Juliana Bareis and husband Eric, Chelsea Ryan and husband Chad, and Michaela Pearson; and ten great-grandchildren. Scott is also survived by three brothers Elmer "Jipe" Pearson and wife Evelyn, Ned Pearson and wife Jan, and Lyle Pearson and wife Cindy; and three sisters, Bess Uitermarkt and husband Marv, Sue Surber and husband Doug, and Lyla Scales and husband George. Scott was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers Frank and Leland "Pete" Pearson; and two sisters, Wilma Hollingshead and Lola Cordle.

A Memorial will be established in Scott's name for the Faith Baptist Church or the Iowa Regular Baptist Camp, Inc. Online condolences may be left at www.winfieldfh.com. Winfield Funeral Home of Knoxville is assisting Scott's family.
