Veda Collins Obituary
Des Moines
Veda "Vicki" Collins passed away on April 11, 2011 at Trinity Center at Luther Park after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. Per Vicki's wishes, a private graveside service was held.
Vicki loved all dogs, especially her very own, Baby and Peaches. She was an avid dancer and participated and won a polka competition at the Iowa State Fair in the 1980's which resulted in a trip to Germany. She played on the Des Moines Tennis Ladder until she was in her 60's. Vicki retired from the American Red Cross and Methodist Medical Center as a bookkeeper.
She will be missed by her daughter, Patricia (Alan) Knight of Ankeny; grandchildren, Steffani Pieart of Greenwood, IN, Erik Pieart of Sunny Isles Beach, FL, and Kari Aufenkamp of Des Moines; two great-grandchildren, Alyssa Everett and Izzabella Dyke; sisters, Viva Jones of Newton; Alta (Dean) Houck of Branson, MO, Nancy Donaldson of Palm Springs, CA; and Marlena Flores of Portland, OR. She was preceded in death by her soul mate and best friend, Norman Collins; her parents; and her infant sister, Elsie McKee.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Des Moines Animal Rescue League or the American Alzheimer's Association.

My dear sweet sister-Vicki! I'll remember you all the days of my own life. I have a dog of my own now and you would love her too. Her name is Jasmine and she is a medium sized poodle.

My sweet sister--Vicki, I recall lots of fun times we had years ago. My dear Dan just went to be with God in January--so perhaps you two have met up again and even playing a round of tennis or dancing to some great polka music!

Dear Patty and family,
I was so sorry to hear about Aunt Vickie. My sister, Cindy sent me the obituary. I will always remember spending several summers at your house. She will always be in our thoughts and prayers, as her passing was the same day as dad's. Love always, Christine and family (Marvin's daughter in Cheyenne, Wyoming)

Dearest Patti and Family,

Pat, Steffi, Erik and Kari--May your memories of your Mom and Grandma reach back to when she was such a loving mother and grandma and so alive with having fun with all of you and with her doggies. I loved her too--she was a very good sister to me and took care of me when I needed her.
