VIRGIL DYKSTRA

Oskaloosa

Virgil G. Dykstra, 89, of Oskaloosa, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa. He was born March 12, 1921, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, the son of Nick and Minnie Walraven Dykstra.

During WWII he worked as a welder at Solar Aircraft Company in Des Moines. On May 10, 1953, he married Katheleen "Katie" Sarneckiin in Des Moines. They purchased Equitable Cigar and Pipe Store in the Equitable Building in Des Moines. Later Virgil began working at Rolscreen in Pella.

His family includes a sister: Esther Kempenaar of Beacon; two brothers: Vern Dykstra and Marion (Ruth) Dykstra all of Bussey; a sister in law: Erma Sarnecki of West Des Moines; and 13 nieces and nephews, and several cousins.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother: Merle Dykstra; an infant sister; and two brothers in law: Carl Stainbrook and William Kempenaar.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. in the Central Reformed Church in Oskaloosa. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 a.m. in the fellowship hall of the church. Burial will be in the Forest Cemetery. The Bates Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements. Visitation will begin Monday after 10:30 a.m. at the Bates Funeral Chapel and the family will be at the funeral chapel Monday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. to greet friends and relatives.
