Carl was my neighbor when me and my sister were just 5 and 6 years old. My father was a single parent so when my Dad worked long hours at his job, Carl became like family to us. He fed us when we were hungry, let us play with Bella and he watched over us while we played in the neighborhood. My sister and I always wondered what happened to our old friend. We were told he passed years before but I didn't do the extensive research as I did today. We are very sad that he is gone. He was a piece of our childhood that made us feel safe. We wish we visit sooner, even if he didn't remember... It would of been nice to thank him for being there for us.

Below, I attached a photo of me, my sister and Bella on Carl's porch in Sterling Heights.

May God rest his soul.

Uncle Carl was one of the most compassionate, admired and finest men you could ever meet. How blessed we were to have this gentle individual as a member of our family. I learned so much from him - just from his actions, the way he conducted himself, and the way he treated and talked with people from all walks of life. I have so many memories of Carl early in my childhood that I could write a small journal. But I do have one memory to share; Carl attended my First Communion in 1968 and came to the house for the celebration my Mother held after the mass. It was not just that he came to my party as Carl attended all the kids parties, but on my day, he showed up in his new new red classic 1968 Ford T-Bird with a turbine engine. Ford only made about 100 turbine engine T-Birds that year and he had one. Could you imagine this jet engine vehicle rolling down the block and Carl piloting the thing, and then giving all my friends rides through East Detroit the rest of the day. We wore the poor guy out and I don't think we saved him a piece of the 1st Communion cake either as he was to busy being an Ambassador for me. But that is the kind of character Carl displayed. I was a big shot the rest of the year thanks to Carl. It's going to be hard to go through the rest of my life not having Carl here, but I am sure he is with his entire family again in heaven and cruising around in that Red T-Bird. Farewell Uncle Carl.

I remember many many years ago going to see Jesus Christ super star and Carl was seating people, not sure maybe at the Fox? Carl was always the gentleman and a great person. He will be so missed by so many. I spoke with Carl several times on FB when Hospice Took over. One thing not mentioned was that Carl was a Christian and loved the Lord. I know he's walking those streets of gold, talking to the saints, seeing crystal blue rivers, eating from the seven fruit trees that taste like no other, totally healed and pain free, living in a mansion and the greatest gift...walking with the Lord. Sorrow for those who loved him but truly home for him. Joann Gonzalez.
