JAMES LONGBUCCO Obituary
LONGBUCCO JAMES R. "JIMMY", January 3, 1917 - January 13, 2014 of Sterling Heights passed away peacefully at the age of 97 in the compassionate care of the staff at Our Lady of Lourde's and family. He was born January 03, 1917 to Angelo and Raefalea (nee Capalabo) Longbucco in Yonkers where he was raised. He graduated from Saunders High School. He was a graduate of Indiana Tech in Engineering. Jim also graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy and served in WWII. Beloved husband of the late Irene R. (Farkas) Longbucco. They were married on January 15, 1944. She predeceased him in 1999. He is predeceased by his sons Anthony and Richard, five brothers, Nat, Tony, Frank and Louis, John and two sisters Antoinette Pagano and Camella Benvenuto. He is survived by Barbara (Phillip) Campbell, Janet Longobucco, Ralph (Vicki) Longbucco, Jim Longbucco, Fr. John Longbucco, and grandchildren Todd (D'Arcy) Campbell and Mark (Tahlia) Campbell, Dominick and Vincent Longbucco, Celeste Longbucco, Ellen (Matt) Wolf, Anthony Longbucco and Kathleen Longbucco, Nicholas Longbucco, Lauren & Jennifer and Angela Longbucco. Jim worked for Travelers Insurance Company as a Safety Engineer until retiring after 32 years of dedicated service to the company and their clients. He was on the cutting edge of safety inspections for nuclear power plants. He was a faithful Catholic and Parishioner of St. Anne Church, Warren, MI where he served as a Catechist, Lector and Eucharistic minister until he was 90. He was a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus, where he started a Vocation Awareness Committee and a member of the Michigan Boiler Inspectors Association. After retirement he volunteered at William Beaumont Hospital as an Emergency Room "transporter" for 20 years and during the tax season he worked as a volunteer for the Madison Heights Senior Citizen Center. He was called "Jimmy" by everyone who knew him, including his friends, neighbors and relatives. He was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting and fishing. He raised and trained his beagles and was hunting well into his 80s. He was a methodical gardener who enjoyed planting and growing his vegetables, preserving tomatoes, seeds developed by his brothers. He enjoyed playing golf and was in numerous local golf leagues. "Jimmy" will be greatly missed and will leave a void in the lives of his children and grandchildren, but they will forever remember him by this saying: "I haven't got a ----- in the world." Visitation will be Wednesday, January 15th from 4-8 p.m. Rosary will be lead by Fr. John Longbucco at 7:30 at the Adragna Obarzanek Funeral Home, 33250 Ryan Rd (just north of 14 Mile), Sterling Heights. For the Funeral Jim will be in state Thursday at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, 38750 Ryan Rd. He will be cremated and his burial will take place in the spring at the families convenience.
